The Greenfield hockey team tallied two power play goals, and four different players found the back of the net as it cruised to a 4-2 victory over Southwick Thursday at Amelia Park Ice Arena in Westfield.
The win keeps Greenfield unbeaten on the season.
“It’s always good to come away with a victory,” Green Wave coach Adam Bouchard said.
Greenfield scored the opening four goals of the game, the first off the stick of Kyle Barnes.
With a scrum in front of the net, Derek Lenois fed the puck out front where Barnes was able to pick it up and bury it to put the Green Wave up 1-0 in the first period.
It didn’t take long into the second period for Greenfield to double its lead.
Kevin Baumann made a great play off the wall and fired a shot into the goal on the power play in the opening minutes of the frame.
Later on in the period, Sammy Knight put one home, with Shane Prusak setting it up with a beautiful backdoor pass to put the Green Wave up 3-0 going into the third. Devin Niles also recorded an assist on the play.
Aidan Roche scored the final goal for Greenfield early in the third period, taking it coast-to-coast and finishing backhand.
Both Southwick goals came in the final three minutes of action.
“The student-athletes at Southwick didn’t quit,” Bouchard said. “Hats off to them. We were able to rotate players in late that don’t get a lot of experience. It’s always good when we can do that.”
Josh Bordeaux came away with 24 saves in goal for the Green Wave in the win.
Greenfield is back on the ice Friday, taking on Amherst at Collins-Moylan Arena. Puck drop is set for 3:30 p.m.
