ATHOL — Athol Savings Bank donated $7,000 to support the Worcester County Food Bank in its endeavor to supply households in the North Quabbin region with needed food during these unprecedented times.
Statistics show that one out of 12 adults in the region, and one out 9 children lacks healthy food to eat, according to a press release.
Athol Savings Bank has donated $19,000 to various food banks during the pandemic.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll on the region and Athol Savings Bank is honored to help bring some relief to those residents who need food the most,” Athol Savings Bank President and CEO Daniel Zona said in a prepared statement. “Providing food for our neighbors in communities throughout Worcester County is our primary mission and we feel it is our duty to help those in need.
“The need for food is great across Worcester County and with this donation from Athol Savings Bank it will directly support seven food pantries in the northern Worcester County region,” Worcester County Food Bank Chief Executive Officer Jean G. McMurray said in a prepared statement.
Athol Savings Bank is the largest mutual savings bank in the North Quabbin region of Massachusetts. It has served the communities of Ashburnham, Athol, Baldwinville, Barre, Gardner and Winchendon for over 154 years.
