Mohawk Trail’s Cam Lococo was on his game on the mound on Monday against Franklin Tech.
The senior struck out seven batters and allowed just five hits as the Warriors pulled out a 10-1 independent win on the road.
“They played well,” Eagle coach Dan Prasol said. “We have to find a way to wake our bats up.”
It was two big innings that propelled Mohawk Trail, as it put five runs on the board in the third and four in the sixth.
Tyler Dubreuil hit a single, a double and scored on an error in the first to get the Warriors on the board and Shawn Davenport had a pair of hits and walked twice in the win.
Nate Sciandra and Gavin Rubio each singled for Franklin Tech while Joe Boyden singled twice.
Easthampton 14, Pioneer 2 (5) — In a battle of the top two teams in teh Hampshire League East, the Eagles put up four runs in the first and tacked on nine runs in the fourth inning to pull away with a 14-2 win over the Panthers in five innings on Monday.
“Despite the loss, there’s a lot of positives to take out of it,” Pioneer coach Jordan Branson said. “We’ll learn from this game.”
Peter Loud went had an RBI single and scored a run for the Panthers, with Jason Quinn driving in a run with a double. Jalen McGraw hit a double, scored a run and made an acrobatic diving catch to rob a home run in the bottom of the second inning.
Franklin Tech 1, Mohawk Trail 0 — The Eagle defense came up with a pair of game-changing double-plays in a low-scoring affair Monday in Turners.
Franklin Tech scattered just two hits off Warrior ace Mya Lesieur but tallied a run in the first inning and held its lead behind solid pitching from Lauren Ross and a pair of double plays to prevent Mohawk Trail from lighting up the scoreboard.
The Warriors loaded the bases with one out in the third before Tech turned a 1-2-3 double-play to get out of the jam. In the top of the seventh Mohawk Trail put runners on first and second with one out and Lesieur up to the plate. Lesieur lined one to right field where Emily Eastman made a diving grab, got up and threw out the runner at second to close out a 1-0 Eagle victory.
“We played great all-around team defense today,” lauded Franklin Tech coach Joe Gamache. “Lauren pitched well and got great defensive support.”
Ross pitched a complete game for the Eagles, striking out 10 and allowing six hits. Lilly Ross scored Tech’s lone run, reaching on an error, making her way to third after a pair of steals and reaching home after a passed ball. The two Eagles hits came from Lilly Ross — who doubled — and Chloe Brothers.
Lesieur struck out six in the circle for the Warriors, adding a pair of hits on the offensive end. Makayla Tatro had a pair of hits, Addie Loomis singled and Rachel Pease hit a double in the loss.
Greenfield 14, Pioneer 2 — Gianna Conte struck out 14 on the circle and added two hits as the Green Wave earned a 14-2 win over the Panthers in Northfield on Monday.
Greenfield scored seven of its runs in the seventh inning.
Katie Haselton blasted a home run while MacKenzie Paulin and Kelsey Richardson each had two hits for the Green Wave. Kaitlin Lavoine and Carly Blanchard each hit safely and Caelyn Patenaude had a hit and two RBIs in the win.
Hailey Haughey, Sophia Holden, Kensey Gibson and Charlotte Kahler all had hits for Pioneer in the loss.
Frontier 101, Mahar 38 — Jack Vecellio won three events while Jackie Phong, Erich Brown and Jesse Kurkolonis each came out winners in two events as the Redhawks continued their strong season with a 101-38 victory on the road against the Senators on Monday.
Veccellio was victorious in the pole vault (13 feet, three inches), 100 (11.4 seconds) and 400 hurdles (59.6 seconds), Phong won the shot put (42-9 1/2) and discus (110-0), Brown was first in the high jump (5-6) and 800 (2:17.9) and Kurkolonis took the javelin (127-9) and 110 hurdles (11.4) for Frontier.
Closing out the winners on the track for the Redhawks were Ian Burt in the 400 (57.5), Miles Ferreira in the 200 (24.1) and Amory Maxey in the 2-mile (12:52.1). Frontier took the 4×100 (48.8) and 4×400 (4:14.5) relays as well.
Mahar’s Dominic Whitman finished first in the long jump (17-7 3/4) and triple jump (36-7 1/2) and Camdyn Johnson won the mile (5:14.5).
Greenfield 108, Easthampton 30 — The host Green Wave tacked on another tally in the win column on Monday, having the winner in all but two events to defeat the Eagles, 108-30, in an independent meet on Monday.
Theo Popusoi had a big day for Greenfield, taking first in the long jump (20-1), triple jump (39-5 1/2), pole vault (12-6) and 400 hurdles (1:03.5) while Liviu Mihailicenco earned triumphs in the high jump (5-8), 110 hurdles (15.9) and the 400 (57.7).
Mason Meadows won both sprints — taking the 100 (11.5) and 200 (23.6) — and Andy Bostrom was the winner in the mile (5:30.3) and 800 (2:41.7). Tristan Toomey’s toss of 44 feet, eight inches earned him first in the javelin and Gianni Passiglia’s time of 12:49.2 won him the 2-mile.
Greenfield earned victories in the 4×100 (49.3) and 4×400 (4:23.8) relays.
Mohawk Trail 96, Franklin Tech 41 — Cullen Brown led the charge for the Warriors, coming out with victories in the long jump (17-11), triple jump (38-6 1/4), 100 (11.9) and 200 (23.9) to lead Mohawk Trail to a 96-41 Intercounty League win against the Eagles in Turners on Monday.
Dennis Simmons’ time of 5:40 gave him first place in the mile and his run of 10:34.7 was good for first in the 2-mile for the Warriors. Dylan Wooldridge won the discus (100-10), Jaden Moore took first in the javelin (106-8), Chay Mojallali won the high jump (5-0), Emmett Johnson came out on top in the pole vault (6-6), Tyler Matteson won the 400 (67.0) and Sean O’Dea was first in the 800 (2:36) to round out the winners for Mohawk Trail.
The Warriors also took the 4×100 relay (50.34) and 4×400 relay.
For Franklin Tech, Ryan Duclos’ toss of 39 feet, two inches won the shot put, Noel Kenny won teh 100 hurdles (22.5) and Patrick Connell Jr. was first in the 400 hurdles (81.1).
Pope Francis 5, Greenfield 0 — It was a clean sweep for the Cardinals on Monday, earning a 5-0 Tri-County North victory over the Green Wave at the Davis Street Courts.
Greenfield’s Jenna Keith fell to Chloe Stevens in No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-1, Estera Covelanco lost to Leana Vale 6-3, 6-2 in No. 2 singles and Kaitlyn Collins dropped a 6-1, 6-0 match against Katelyn Horky.
Kaitlyn Phillips and Rory Cronen-Townsend lost to Pope Francis’ Elizabeth Goncalves and Elita Vale 6-0, 6-1 in No. 1 doubles and Mireb Gheorghita and Aisha Pruitt Gonzalez fell to Paige Cook and Emma Cassell 6-0, 6-1 in No. 2 doubles.
Pope Francis 4, Greenfield 1 — With just four players available to play the Green Wave were forced to forfeit two matches, leaving them needing to sweep the Cardinals in the matches played to get a win.
Daniel Pena-Chadee earned a 6-2, 6-3 win in No. 1 singles over A.J. Goncalves but Pope Francis came out ahead in the next two matches to pull out a 4-1 win over Greenfield in Springfield on Monday.
Cardinal Mac Mahoney defeated Jacob Frank 6-2, 7-5 in No. 2 singles while Green Wave’s Matt Lavoine and Christian Larouche fell to Joey Dewey and Makenzie Lopes, 7-5, 4-6, 10-8, in No. 1 doubles.
