Taylor Loomis won three events while Sage Spitzer and Savannah Simmons each won a pair of events as Mohawk Trail earned a 122-16 Intercounty League victory over Turners Falls in a girls track meet on Tuesday in Turners.
Loomis came out on top in the long jump (12 feet, 10½ inches) while also taking first in the pole vault (7-6) and javelin (80-11). Spitzer took first in the triple jump with a leap of 27 feet, 7½ inches and the high jump with a jump of 4-4, and Simmons won the 100 hurdles with a time of 22.7 seconds and the mile with a time of 7:25.
In the field, the Warriors also received victories from Jamie Cook in the shot put (23-7 1/4) and Avery Johnston in the discus (53-6).
Mohawk Trail won all the track events as well, with Serena Bardwell picking up a win in the 100 (13.9 seconds), Ella Wilda in the 400 (77.7), Emily Simmons in the 400 hurdles (79.6), Sofiya Slocik-Gritzner in the 800 (3:13), Ellie Pinkham in the 200 (29.1) and Sierra Upton in the 2-mile (16:07).
The Warriors won the 4×100 (56.6) and 4×400 (5:01.7) relays.
Turners’ Linley Rollins took second in the high hurdles and discus and came in third in the javelin.
Mahar 3, Easthampton 2 — Entering Tuesday the Senators were 0-5 in the Hampshire League East while the Eagles sat atop the division with a 7-0 record.
They don’t play the games in the standings, however.
With the contest knotted 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Matt Lyesiuk hit a walk-off single that drove in Noaha Chabot with the winning run, giving the host Senators an impressive 3-2 victory Tuesday in Orange.
Cole Johnson got the start on the mound for Mahar, tossing a no-hitter through five innings before giving up just one hit in the sixth and striking out six. Both of Easthampton’s runs came in the seventh inning off Liam O’Donnell, who ended up picking up the win for the Senators.
The Senators tallied a run in the fourth inning and tacked another run on the board in the fifth. Connor Knetchel led the way with three base hits for Mahar, driving in a run. Lyesiuk had a pair of hits while Johnson, O’Donnell, Eli Spencer and Nate Danielson each hit safely.
Frontier 6, Greenfield 1 — Tyler Baranowski continued to dominate as the ace of the Frontier pitching staff on Tuesday.
The right hander struck out four and allowed just three hits and two walks in a complete-game effort, as the Redhawks notched a 6-1 victory over Greenfield in Hampshire League West action in South Deerfield.
“Tyler was somebody I hadn’t seen play much before the season but I had heard very good things about him and that he was a talented arm,” Frontier coach Chris Williams began. “Just seeing him come into this season absolutely on fire, it’s above and beyond what I expected. He has days where he’s getting strikeouts, and days like (Tuesday) where the defense is solid behind him making the plays.”
Ben Martino continued to swing a hot bat for Frontier (7-1, 6-1), as he was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a pair of stolen bases. Kevin Baumann had a hit and drove in two runs, while Baranowski singled and drove in a run. Sam Schreiber’s two-run single in the second inning gave the Hawks a 3-0 lead.
Greenfield (2-5, 2-5) scored its run in the top of the seventh. Nick Bresciano’s sacrifice fly plated the lone run of the contest. David Carey struck out four in four innings of work on the mound for the Green Wave, while Brody Baird and Jake Petrin each tossed an inning of relief.
Belchertown 5, Turners 2 — Tied 2-2 after three innings the Orioles put one run on the board in the top of the sixth and added two more insurance runs in the seventh to pull away with a 5-2 Hampshire League West victory on the road.
Eighth-grader Alex Quesada tossed a complete game for the Thunder, striking out four in a performance that impressed coach Scott Minckler.
“Alex did a heck of a job,” Minckler said. “We just weren’t able to get some timely hits when we needed them offensively.”
Quesada helped himself out with a pair of hits in the loss, with Cam Burnett the lone other Turners player to crack a hit in the contest.
Derek Wissman and Joey Mosca had the two RBIs for the Thunder.
Turners 26, Mahar 0 — Madi Liimatainen and Holly Myers combined to pitch a no hit shutout as the Thunder cruised to a 26-0 victory over the Senators on Tuesday.
Liimatainen went three innings and struck out seven while Myers pitched two and struck out three.
Jade Tyler went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs in the win, with Taylor Murphy adding a double, a triple and two RBIs. Liimatainen, Olivia Whittier and Hannah Marchefka each had a pair of hits and RBIs and Myers had two doubles, a single and two RBIs for Turners.
Mackinley Drew got the start for the Senators and struck out a batter. Saylor Kegans also pitched for Mahar.
Frontier 3, Mohawk Trail 2 — A pair of doubles wins and a gutsy singles performance helped propel the Redhawks to a 3-2 victory over the Warriors in South Deerfield on Tuesday.
Frontier’s duo of Sy dney Scanlon and Sam Baker pulled off a 6-3, 7-5 win over Palmer King and Samantha Discuillo in No. 1 doubles. In No. 2 doubles, Redhawks Isabelle Brown and Mandy Powers got past Elizabeth Lynch and Winter Garofalo, 6-0, 6-1.
Coleman Hartner, battling an injury, had the lone win in singles for Frontier, defeating Paige King 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 7-6 (9-6) in a hotly-contested No. 2 singles match.
“Coleman powered through an injury to win his match and secure the win for us,” Redhawks coach Carl Cyr said. “Lots of credit to Mohawk for making us work hard for the win.”
Mohawk Trail’s Avery Dupree came out with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Mary Laurens in No. 1 singles while Warrior Phineas Tuttman defeated Emma Clancy in No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-4.
