Gianna Conte made it a Senior Night to remember.

The Greenfield softball star recorded her 100th career strikeout, tossing a five-inning perfect game and also smacking a double, triple and three RBIs at the plate to lift the Green Wave to a 14-0 victory over Mohawk Trail in a Franklin County League tilt under the lights at Vets Field in Greenfield.

“She couldn’t do much more on her Senior Night,” lauded Greenfield coach John Hickey of Conte. “I’m really proud of the way she’s performed all year for us.”

Conte and fellow senior Katie Haselton made it a memorable night for Greenfield (7-2, 7-2). Haselton was 1-for-3 with an RBI, and she’s made a big impact this spring after playing for the first time since eighth grade.

“She’s been a big part and addition to our team,” Hickey said of Haselton.

Kelsey Richardson and Amber Bergeron each hit home runs to power Greenfield, while Carly Blanchard was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Athol 13, Mahar 1 — Lindsey LeBlanc struck out 12 in the circle, and the offense received hits from eight different batters as Athol rolled past rival Mahar, 13-1, in a five-inning Franklin County League softball contest Monday evening in Athol.

The Bears improved to 7-3 overall, 6-3 in the FCL to remain in a tie for third place with Frontier. Both teams are one game behind second-place Greenfield.

“We’re taking it one game a time, literally one game at a time,” explained Athol coach Sharon Chauvette, whose team plays Frontier on Tuesday and still has a game left against Greenfield.

LeBlanc allowed two hits and one walk in her outing, which was aided by a nine-run bottom of the third inning to break things open. Reily Polana was 3-for-4 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored to lead the way. Sadey Lehtomaki clubbed a home run in the third inning, while Abby Kirwin (double), Jenna Bonenfant and LeBlanc (double) all had a hit and two RBIs. Lexi Forte (double), Kennedy Vaillancourt and Emma Bacigalupo contributed a hit and an RBI of their own.

Mahar’s Keanna Thompson singled and drove in a run for the visitors, while Mackinley Drew also had a hit and scored the Senators’ run in the top of the fourth.

Frontier 5, Pioneer 1 — Olivia Deane provided a solid start in the circle, and host Frontier received timely hitting en route to a 5-1 victory over Pioneer in FCL action Monday in South Deerfield.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third, the Redhawks pushed three runs across to snatch control. Macy Ring’s single propelled the rally, as Ashley Taylor, Makayla Santos and Jillian Apanell all came across in the frame.

Lucia Doulette helped provide some insurance in the fifth inning when she launched a solo home run for Frontier (7-3, 6-3). Santos and Delaney Fifield added hits in the win.

Pioneer got on the board in the top of the second inning when Laura Kahler drove in Sofia Holden with a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0. Avery Johnson reached twice via walks for the Panthers.

Deane went six strong innings to earn the win for the Redhawks, striking out six while allowing just one hit — a single to Kelly Baird in the top of the fourth inning. Savannah Upton worked around a pair of walks and a hit batter in the seventh inning to seal the deal.

Holden went the distance for the Panthers (2-8, 2-8), striking out three while allowing just four hits and one walk.

Quentin Polana and Jack Bonenfant each had a hit and an RBI.

Turners’ Alex Quesada racked up 10 strikeouts over five innings in a solid outing for the visitors. Quesada walked three and allowed nine hits before Mason Lehtomaki came on and struck out three in one inning of relief.
