A dream season for the Four Rivers Charter School ultimate programs concluded in championship fashion on Thursday.

Just three days removed from a state title on the boys side, the Otters added some more hardware on the girls side. Four Rivers turned a tight halftime advantage into a convincing 15-8 win over Lexington to capture the Division 1 state title in Greenfield.

Ashley Schlinger was the star offensively for the Otters, as she scored five goals and assisted on several others. Four Rivers led 8-5 at halftime.

The hosts made some key adjustments in the second half, cutting off Lexington’s vaunted deep-throwing attack. The Otters held a 7-3 edge after intermission, and Charlotte Roberts notched the game-winning tally to seal the victory. Roberts finished with three goals.

Four Rivers’ Afri Flynn had a strong game on both ends of the field.

It was the second state title in program history for the Otters, and the first time ever that both programs captured state crowns.

Frontier captures D3 boys championship

In the ultimate landscape, the Frontier boys program is still in its relative infancy. Just a few years in however, the results have already been impressive.

Only a few years removed from starting an ultimate program, Frontier captured a state title on Thursday night, knocking off visiting Arlington, 12-10, in the boys Division 3 state final in a game played at Highland Park in Millers Falls.

With the game tied 5-5, Frontier scored the next three points to take an 8-5 lead into halftime.

That advantage grew to 10-5 before Arlington stormed back with five second-half tallies. Frontier held on in the end however, scoring the 12-10 win.

Andre Widmer poured in six goals, while Brady Burch assisted on six goals in the victory. Payton Sladeski scored four goals for Frontier, which received additional assists from Matt Sicard, Ngawang Deter and David Gray in addition to solid defense from Rowan Viles.
