It was a good weekend for Recorder area athletes at the annual Summer Bay State Games over the weekend.
Greenfield’s Tess Rancourt took home gold on the track, winning the shot put with a top toss of 34 feet, 10 inches. Fellow Green Wave athlete Victoria Marin earned silver medals in three events: the long jump (15-7), 100-meter hurdles (16.01 seconds) and high jump (5-0), while Emma Savoy took fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 29 feet, 9½ inches.
Greenfield’s Miles Ferreira earned a ninth-place finish in both the 100 (12.12 seconds) and 200 (24.94 seconds).
Mahar’s Cole Johnson was part of the silver medal-winning West boys soccer team, which won both its round robin games before falling to Southeast/Coastal in the championship game. Frontier’s Hannah Mackin also earned a silver medal in soccer, playing on a West squad thatfell to Northeast in penalty kicks in the championship game.
The West field hockey team — which included Greenfield’s Rancourt, Madyson Kuchieski and Brielle Widelo — went 1-3 over the weekend, picking up its lone win over Southeast on Saturday.
On the ice, Frontier’s Kevin Baumann competed on the West boys hockey squad which went 1-1-1 in the tournament, beating Central, tying Metro/Northeast and falling to Central. On the girls side, Turners Falls’ Cadence Wozniak played for the West team that went 0-3 in the tournament.
Frontier’s Sydney Scanlon was part of the West volleyball team, and the club won one match over the weekend.
