Following a tight loss in the season opener against Westfield on Friday, the Greenfield hockey team returned to a familiar place on Monday night – back in the win column against Mt. Everett.
The Green Wave used their speed on an Olympic sized rink at the Berkshire School, leading to an 8-2 Wright Division victory.
“It’s always good to get the first win of the season,” Greenfield coach Adam Bouchard said. “It was great to see multiple lines score and we got goals from defenseman which was nice.”
Five different Green Wave (1-1, 1-0) skaters tallied their first varsity goals in the win. Jake Jurek scored twice and dished three assists, Matt Garvin and Matthew Lavoine each scored and had two assists while Jayson Smith and Derek Wissmann also found the back of the net for the first time.
MJ Paulin had a goal, Shane Prusak scored and tossed two assists and Jake Croteau had an assist in the win. Josh Bordeaux made eight saves in two periods of work in goal before Jerry Scallion came on for the third period.
Athol 50, Mahar 43 — Ethan Bacigalupo dropped 17 points while Ben Kearney scored eight points and Jamieson Vincent scored seven points to lead the Bears to a 50-43 win over the Senators on Monday.
Jayden Delgado led Mahar with nine points.
Athol 36, Mahar 26 — Lizzy Mailloux scored nine points with Abby Lutz adding seven points as the Bears beat the Senators, 36-26, on Monday.
Hayden Comeau scored 10 points for Mahar.
