The long-awaited MIAA State Tournament brackets were fully released on Wednesday, with local squads finding out where they stand in the final power rankings and who they’ll be facing to open the tournament.
All dates and times of the games are to be determined unless otherwise noted. The seeds are not official until Thursday.
In the Div. 5 baseball field, Frontier comes in at the No. 6 seed, where it has a bye to the Round of 32. The Redhawks will host the winner of No. 27 Bromfield and No. 38 BC Charter at a date and time to be determined.
Pioneer and Greenfield also earned byes in the Preliminary Round, with the Panthers seeded No. 12 and the Green Wave at No. 14. Pioneer will host the victor of No. 21 Mt. Everett and No. 44 St. Mary’s while No. 19 Mystic Valley will make the trip to Vets Field for a Round of 32 matchup with Greenfield on Monday at 4 p.m.
Franklin Tech and Turners Falls will both be on the road in the Preliminary Round. The Eagles earned the No. 36 seed and will take on No. 29 Ware, with the winner advancing to play No. 4 Tahanto.
The Thunder are the No. 40 seed and will travel to Northampton for a showdown with No. 25 Smith Vocational in the Preliminary Round. The winner of that game advances to play No. 8 Carver.
The road to a state title runs through Greenfield.
The Green Wave earned the No. 1 seed in the Div. 5 field, and they’ll play the winner of No. 32 Ware and No. 33 Pathfinder in the Round of 32 on Monday at 6 p.m.
Turners Falls is the No. 2 seed in the field, and the Thunder will also play at home until the semifinals (when neutral sites are expected). Turners gets the winner of No. 31 South Shore Voc/Tech and No. 34 Upper Cape Regional in the Round of 32.
Fourth-seeded Franklin Tech makes it three of the top four seeds from Franklin County, and the Eagles will meet either No. 29 Norfolk Aggie or No. 36 Salem Academy in the Round of 32.
Both No. 21 Frontier and No. 24 Athol will head on the road for Round of 32 contests. Frontier will travel to play at No. 12 Tahanto, while the Bears will play at No. 9 Hopedale.
The Western Mass. Class C champions will have a tough opening round matchup.
Frontier earned the No. 17 seed in the Div. 2 field and will head to Wilbraham to take on No. 16 Minnechaug. The match will be Saturday at 3 p.m.
On the girls side, No. 24 Greenfield is the top local seed in the Div. 4 field, and the Green Wave will travel to play at No. 9 Lee in the Round of 32 on Monday at 4 p.m.
The other two local teams in the Div. 4 field will actually play each other in the Preliminary Round, as No. 32 Frontier will host No. 33 Mohawk Trail on Sunday at 4 p.m. in South Deerfield. The winner will advance to play top-seeded Hamilton-Wenham in the Round of 32.
The boys tournament has just one local entry in No. 23 Frontier, and the Redhawks drew a familiar foe in No. 10 Lee. The two teams just met in the Western Mass. Class C semifinals, with the Wildcats earning a 4-1 win. Lee will host this Round of 32 match, set for Monday at 4 p.m.
