ATHOL — Summer’s here and the time is right for exploring some fun and easy hikes nearby. Author Joe Adamowicz will talk about short hikes in Central Mass on Wednesday, June 29, from 6 to 7 p.m., at the Athol Public Library, 568 Main St.

New to hiking, just starting to get in shape, or wanting to start exploring nature with young children? This free presentation is for you!

Adamowicz is the author of several New England hiking guides, and is here to share some treasures from his most recent book, “Johnny Appleseed Hikes for Kids.” North Central Massachusetts is known as “Johnny Appleseed Country.” This book provides details of 25 hikes in the region. Includes maps and photos, along with tips on what to bring and how to prepare, in addition to “KID KONNECTS” — trail features that will appeal to youngsters. Hikers of all ages will enjoy discovering these local sites.

Copies of the author’s books will be available for purchase (cash or check) at this event.
