WENDELL — The town will hold a virtual public hearing on Wednesday to discuss updating its 2016 Hazard Mitigation Plan to identify and prioritize what Wendell can do to mitigate the impacts of natural hazards and climate change.
The meeting is slated for 10 to 11 a.m. Anyone who is interested in attending should visit bit.ly/3ynHj0J. The meeting ID is 879 0754 8010 and the passcode is 404987.
Residents will have the opportunity to contribute their ideas for making Wendell more resilient to natural hazards like flooding, snowstorms, high winds and extreme temperatures. This plan was developed by a Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee made up of town officials and local stakeholders. Jamie Caplan Consulting LLC, a Northampton-based firm, led this effort on behalf of Wendell and the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA).
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approval, and town adoption, of the Hazard Mitigation Plan update allows Wendell to apply for pre- and post-disaster hazard mitigation grant money.
Wendell developed a Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) Plan in 2021 that also identified possible actions to mitigate risks of natural hazards and climate change. The Hazard Mitigation Plan update will include all those identified actions that are still relevant.
