North Quabbin Senior Picnic set for Sept. 1

ATHOL — Following two years of a reprieve, the annual North Quabbin Senior Picnic has returned and will be held on Thursday, Sept. 1, at Silver Lake Park under the Richard Phillips Pavilion. The event opens at 11 a.m. with food and beverages to be served at approximately 11:45 a.m.. The picnic ticket price includes hamburgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers, potato salad, beverages and dessert. Live entertainment with “The Relics” will flow throughout the day. There will be a raffle basket and tin can auction sponsored by the Friends of the Council on Aging.

Ticket deadline: Aug. 25

Tickets are available at the Athol and Orange Senior Centers until Aug. 25. The event is sponsored by the Town of Athol, Friends of the Athol COA, LifePath, Inc. and Quabbin Valley Health Care. This event is also supported in part by a grant from the Athol Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency. Farmers market coupons for seniors

ATHOL — Farmers Market Coupons will be distributed at the Athol Senior Center on Wednesday, Aug. 17, beginning at 10 a.m. for Brown Bag volunteers and 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. for the general public. Recipients must be 60 years or older and meet income eligibility guidelines. Annual income eligibility is: household of one, $25,142; household of two, $33,874. The annual income increases with additional household members. The coupons are free to seniors who qualify and are used as cash at the Farmers Markets. The coupons are good until Oct. 31. The monthly Brown Bags will also be distributed on this day.
