The stakes are always a bit higher when Greenfield and Turners Falls meet, regardless of sport.

The two rivals took their skills to the volleyball court on Friday night, and the visiting Thunder took care of business via a 25-19, 25-12, 25-17 Northern League sweep at Nichols Gymnasium.

Turners Falls (4-1, 4-1) was led by Madi Liimatainen’s six kills and three aces. Taylor Greene dished out 12 assists to go with three kills and four aces, while Abbi Holloway tossed in two aces and put down five kills.

Karisma Santana powered the Greenfield offense with seven kills, and added four aces and five digs. Paloma Cruz Lopez notched six digs for the Green Wave (1-3, 1-3) while Rachel Dodge went for four kills, six aces and eight assists.

Wahconah 3, Mahar 0 — The host Warriors notched a 25-12, 25-10, 25-6 sweep in a Northern League contest Friday in Dalton.

Taylor Mason had eight aces and four assists for Wahconah.

Boys soccer

Pathfinder 4, Franklin Tech 0 — The Pioneers put three in the back of the net in the first half before adding a goal in the second to come away with a Tri-County win in Turners on Friday. 

Nik Martin made 12 saves in the loss. 

Smith Academy 7, Pioneer 0 — A hat trick from Cameron Zononi, and a five-point outing from Ben Hudzik was more than enough for the Falcons in a 7-0 win on Friday.

The Falcons led 5-0 at halftime. Hudzik had a goal and assisted on four others, while Riley Intrator added two goals and an assist in the win. Cameron Graves (goal, assist) and Griffin Goldman (assist) also contributed, and Ryan Belina stopped one shot for the shutout.

Peter Loud made 13 saves in net for Pioneer.

Girls soccer

Frontier 0, Easthampton 0 — It was a defensive struggle at Nonotuck Park in Easthampton on Friday, as the Redhawks and Eagles settled for a 0-0 draw after 80 scoreless minutes.

Easthampton goalie Addie Barr made one save for the hosts, while Frontier’s Cadince Wells-Robinson stopped eight shots.

Hoosac 3, Mahar 1 — Astha Bernard tallied again for the Senators, which fell on the road at Hoosac Valley in Grieve League action on Friday.

Hoosac held a 10-9 edge in shots. Mahar goalie Alivia Patch made five saves.

Field hockey

Pioneer 4, Amherst 0 — Sofia Walker had a day for the Panthers on Friday, finding the back of the cage three times as the Panthers picked up a County League victory in Northfield. 

Riley Thayer tallied a goal and an assist while Avery Sargent also had an assist and Kelly Baird stopped all five shots that came her way in the win. Pioneer held a 7-2 corner advantage.

Greenfield 2, Agawam 0 — Lillia Kachelmeyer continued her hot start to the season on Friday, tapping in a rebound in the first quarter and doing so again in the third quarter to help lift the Green Wave to a Suburban League win in Greenfield. 

Ainslee Flynn made three saves in the win, with Greenfield holding a 10-3 shot edge in the game. The Green Wave also had an 11-7 corner advantage. 

FC Tech 1, West Springfield 1 — Katy Lengieza saved the day, putting home a fourth-quarter tally to erase a 1-0 deficit and earn the Eagles a point with an independent tie on the road in West Springfield on Friday at Clark Field.

The Terriers took a 1-0 lead late in the third quarter before Franklin Tech battled back. The visitors earned 15 penalty corners but couldn’t find the winner. Goalie Madison Markwell made two saves. 

Smith Academy 2, Mahar 1 — The host Falcons built a 2-0 halftime lead and held off a Mahar rally to snag a 2-1 victory on Friday in Hatfield.

Laura McGinnis scored a third-quarter goal for the Senators, with an assist from Shea Woods to cut the deficit to 2-1. Eighth grader Savannah Von Schmidt stopped 12 shots in goal for Mahar in her varsity debut. 

Golf

Franklin Tech 18.5, Mohawk Trail 5.5 — Brady Booska bested the field with a low round of 38, lifting the visiting Eagles to a decisive win at Edge Hill Golf Course in Ashfield on Friday.

Booska won all four points in his match at No. 3 for Franklin Tech. Gabe Mota shot 42 and won 3.5 points at No. 1, while Tyler Lafountain snagged four points at No. 4 thanks to a round of 48.

Mohawk Trail’s Logan Moore led the way with a 46, notching 3.5 points at No. 2. Phineas Tuttman shot 48 and Douglas Wilcox fired a 49 for the Warriors.

Late Thursday results

• Makayla Valente made 22 saves as the Greenfield girls soccer team fell to Pope Francis, 8-0. 

• Addy Wood finished as the match medalist with a 44 to help lead the Frontier golf team to a 16.5-7.5 win over Greenfield. 

Ryan Cetto and Cam Skiffington each shot a 46 for the Redhawks. Bryce Avery and Dylan Archer each carded a 45 for the Green Wave.
