It was a fast start for the Monument Mountain offense on Friday against Athol.
The Spartans ran in a touchdown on their opening drive and threw a touchdown on their second drive before returning a punt for a touchdown to build a 22-0 lead going after one quarter.
Monument tacked on two more touchdowns to come away with a 36-0 independent victory at O’Brien Field.
“We’re not healthy right now,” Bears coach Josh Talbot said. “We battled a lot of illness and injuries these last two weeks. Hopefully we get a fresh start in league play next week and hopefully then we can play some better football.”
Nick Henderson was the star for the Spartans, finding the end zone multiple times and intercepting a pass.
The Spartans tacked on a touchdown in the second quarter to go up 28-0 at the half and found the end zone again in the third to take a 36-0 lead into the fourth.
Athol opens Intercounty League North action next week against Greenfield.
• In other Week 3 action on Friday, Franklin Tech fell to Groton-Dunstable, 49-0, in an independent contest in Groton.
