A goal in each half from sniper Astha Bernard propelled the Mahar girls soccer team to an impressive victory on Thursday.

Bernard tallied twice and the Senators’ defense held strong, blanking Hoosac Valley, 2-0, in a Grieve League girls soccer game at the Woodward Complex in Orange.

The defensive unity of Dakota Cleveland, Kendrah Doane, Megan Parse and Kayley Murphy did the job in front of Mahar goalie Alivia Patch, who stopped both shots she faced for the shutout.

“It was really good to get a win and play with the lead,” Mahar coach Chad Softic said. “I can’t give enough credit to our back four… they have been outstanding all year.”

The Sens are back in action Monday night when they host Central.

Greenfield 2, Athol 2 — The two teams played to a 2-2 draw under the lights at O’Brien Field in Athol in a Bi-County League contest on Thursday.

St. Mary’s 6, Franklin Tech 0 — Kylee Gamache made 15 saves while Madeline Brandl came in to stop two shots as the Eagles fell in a Bi-County League contest in Turners Thursday. 

Sophia Moreno, Samantha Duncan and Madyson Lynde played well in the loss. 

Boys soccer

Greenfield 2, Sci-Tech 1 — The visiting Green Wave built a 2-0 halftime lead and held on, as goalie Daniel Pena-Chadee made nine saves in net to propel Greenfield to a 2-1 Schmid League victory on Thursday at Berte Field in Springfield.

Caleb Thomas got the scoring started for the Wave just two minutes into regulation, with an assist from Jackson Campbell. In the 27th minute, Campbell made it 2-0 with a goal, this time coming off an assist from Thomas.

Sci-Tech’s Omar Al-Yasine cut the deficit in half with a 55th-minute goal for the hosts.

Hopkins 3, Pioneer 0 — Patrick Fitzgibbons, Teddy Cyr and Nick Uchneat found the back of the net for the Golden Hawks in a Schmid League win over the Panthers in Hadley on Thursday. 

Co-ed soccer

Four Rivers 10, Buxton 2 — Christian Dimitriou netted a hat trick, as the Otters cruised to a 10-2 River Valley Athletic League win over Buxton School on Thursday.

Malachi Flynn and Cooper Whitney had two goals apiece for Four Rivers, which also received tallies from Leela Clark, Zayne Appel and Aida Potter. Next up, the Otters host St. Michael’s School on Tuesday.

Field hockey

Pioneer 1, Amherst 0 — Under the lights in Amherst, Pioneer’s Lauryn Kalinowski tallied the game’s only goal as the Panthers notched another key County League victory on Thursday.

Pioneer (7-1-1, 7-0-1) still hasn’t lost a league game, and the Panthers control their own destiny for the County League title. Next up is a Saturday road test at Palmer before games next week against Holyoke and Belchertown (twice).

Golf

Franklin Tech 166, Southwick 167 — Brady Booska fired the low round of the day, as his 35 lifted the Eagles to a one-stoke victory at Edgewood Country Club in Southwick.

Gabe Mota shot 40 and Alex Sulda carded a 44 for Franklin Tech.

Late Wednesday results

Mohawk Trail’s Kate Walker scored on an assist from Emmy Sisum in the Warrior field hockey team’s 5-1 loss to Hampshire. 

■ Saylor Kegans had an ace and three kills, Cordelia Rhodes had a kill and an ace while Emilia Ramos put down a kill as the Mahar volleyball team fell to Wahconah, 3-0.
