Grapplers who earned top four finishes at the Western and Central Mass. Wrestling Championships last weekend will travel to Wakefield High School on Friday to compete in the annual two-day MIAA Div. 3 Championships.

A pair of locals will square off in the opening round in the 113-pound bracket on Friday. Mahar’s Abduli Gilmore, who won the Central Mass. sectional championship, will take on Mohawk Trail’s Landon Purington, who placed fourth at Western Mass.

Frontier’s Wyatt Finch is also in the 113-pound field after taking third at Western Mass., and he will meet Holliston’s Bavly Mikhail in the opening round of the double-elimination tournament on Friday. 

Mahar’s Domanic Cacciolfi is the lone local in the 138 field, as he took fourth at the Central Mass. sectional. He squares off with Tewksbury’s Jack Donovan in his opening match on Friday. Athol’s Aiden Kirwan will compete at 160 after placing second at Central Mass. He faces off with Excel Academy’s Rafael Maya in his opening round contest.

Another pair of locals will wrestle each other in the opening round at 170. Frontier’s Conner Hoffman, who won the Western Mass. title last weekend at Mohawk Trail, will compete against Mahar’s Xander Roberts, who placed fourth at Central Mass.

Franklin Tech’s Collin Eddy placed second at Western Mass. in the 182-pound bracket, and will go up against Jack Johnson of Duxbury in his first match on Friday. Frontier’s Jake Mattson, who won Western Mass. at 195, takes on Norton’s Gavin Luciano to get his day started while Warrior Will VanVleet, who placed second at Western Mass. at 220, takes on Triton’s Ashton Wonson in his first match. 

Franklin Tech’s Josh Lynde and Frontier’s Javion Cabrera are both in the field at 285. Lynde took fourth at Western Mass. and will face off against Melrose’s Braden Marceau in his first match while Cabrera, who nabbed third at Western Mass. after beating Lynde, opens his day against Excel Academy’s Billy Sullivan. 

The meet is scheduled to get underway on Friday at 4 p.m. The semifinals and final matches will be on Saturday, also in Wakefield.
