ATHOL—First responders from Athol and Orange transported two people to area hospitals following an accident on Sunday.

According to Athol Fire Capt. Eric Jack, the accident was reported at 5:11 p.m. A vehicle had struck a utility pole on Main Street near Chestnut Hill Avenue, which broke the pole nearly in two. The Athol and Orange fire departments both sent an engine and ambulance to the scene. One person had to be extricated and both were transported to area hospitals.
