NORTHAMPTON — It was an impressive road performance from the Franklin Tech girls volleyball team on Friday night.

The Eagles shook off a set two loss and won a wild clincher in the fourth frame en route to a 25-19, 24-26, 25-20, 29-27 win over Smith Vocational in an independent match in Northampton.

“Their will to fight and want to win the [last] set, I think that was very impressive,” Franklin Tech head coach Jade Cuevas said of her team. “They have it in them, but I wasn’t sure when it was gonna come out.” 

Lea Chapman led the way with a whopping 19 kills for Franklin Tech, and she also notched four aces, four blocks and six digs. Shelby O’Leary (16 assists, three digs), Emma Petersen (seven kills, three aces) and Jenna Petrowicz (three aces, three blocks) also had big nights to aid the Eagles.

 “We came back so strong, we had to get  our energy up,” Chapman said. “We had to move our feet and come together as one – and we put that game in the bag.”

Frontier 3, Agawam 0 – Caroline Deane recorded double-digit kills for the fifth time this season in the Redhawks sweep of the Brownies. Deane had 12 kills, and Gabby Adams put down seven of her own to pace the Frontier offense.

Allie Pierce had a terrific game from behind the service line, as she tallied 11 aces to go along with her 18 assists. Five of the Redhawks’ six wins have come via sweep, including their 26-24, 25-11, 25-21 win over Agawam on Friday.

Turners 3, Ludlow 1 – Madi Liimatainen racked up 16 kills to go with five aces and six digs, and the Thunder shook off a loss in the third set to capture a 25-14, 25-20, 20-25, 25-12 independent win on Friday.

Taylor Greene amassed 19 assists, three kills and four digs for Turners Falls, while Tatiana Carr Williams went for three kills and Janelle Massey totaled five aces and five digs.

Boys soccer

Greenfield 4, Turners Falls 2 – Four different players scored goals for the Green Wave as they pulled away from the Thunder.

Heskey Samu, William Pierre, Caleb Thomas, and Clivens Carter Michel all found the back of the net in Greenfield’s win. Carter Michel also picked up an assist.

For Turners Falls, Yolvin Ovalle and Noah Kolodziej each scored  an unassisted goal in the loss.
