There wasn’t much separating the Frontier and Palmer golf teams on Wednesday at Cherry Hill Golf Course in Amherst. 

Redhawk Ryan Cetto came in as the match medalist with a 38 but it was the Panthers that had three players shoot under 45, with Palmer walking away with a 173-178 victory.

Cade Allenby shot a 40, Cam Skiffington carded a 48 while Gabe Solodky and Tyler Galenski each shot a 52 to score for the Redhawks. 

McCann Tech 184, Mohawk Trail 185 — It came down to the wire at Edge Hill on Wednesday, with the Hornets squeaking out a victory over the Warriors. 

Phineas Tuttman (38), Logan Moore (48), Doug Wilcox (49) and Deegan Kelleher (50) scored for Mohawk Trial. 

Girls soccer

Easthampton 3, Frontier 1 — The Eagles held a 1-0 lead at the half and tacked two goals on during the final 40 minutes of action to pull away with a Pioneer North win over the Redahwks in Easthampton on Wednesday. 

Carly Robertson scored an unassisted goal while Jazzy Hayes made 12 saves for Frontier. 

Mahar 1, Holyoke 0 — Much like they did against Athol on Tuesday, the Senators scored a first-half goal and rode their defense to the finish to pick up a Pioneer North win over the Purple Knights in Orange on Wednesday. 

Logan Burke scored for Mahar on a direct kick from 25 yards out, with the shot going under the corner crossbar in the 30th minute. Alivia Patch made seven saves for the Sens (4-6-1). 

“This is really a signature win for our girls and I’m especially happy for our seniors,” Mahar coach Chad Softic said. “Megan Parse, Logan Burke, Alivia Patch, Audrey Danielson and Dakota Cleveland were the keys to our win and our turnaround.

“We were sitting at 0-5 and they kept working and grinding and our recent success is a testament to them. I’m very proud of the team. We are not perfect and we have no margin for error but we show up and we try like heck.”

Volleyball

Frontier 3, Central 1 — Caroline Deane put down 16 kills and 11 aces while adding 10 digs as the Redhawks walked away with a 25-15, 25-15, 19-25, 25-18 Eastern League win over the Golden Eagles at Goodnow Gymnasium on Wednesday. 

Kate DeMaio (nine kills, two aces), Gabby Adams (six kills, eight digs), Allie Pierce (26 assists, three aces) and Abigail Hernandez (one kill, two aces) contributed for Frontier in the victory. 

Mohawk Trail 3, Athol 0 — Palmer King finished with 11 aces and nine assists to help propel the Warriors to a 25-17, 25-18, 25-9 Northern League victory over the Bears at Mallet Gymnasium on Wednesday. 

Riley Giard tallied four aces and four kills, Emma Canaday put down three kills and two aces while Grace Davenport and Abby Moffatt each had three aces for Mohawk Trail. 

Laney Florentino (one kill, one ace), Kahlen Gregory (two aces), Olivia Mayer (one kill, one ace) and Abby Lutz (one kill, one ace) led Athol in the defeat. 

Field hockey

Turners Falls 8, Mahar 3 – Ledwin Villafana and Jaade Duncan both netted hat tricks, and the Thunder exploded for an eight-spot in an 8-3 Valley League win over Mahar on Wednesday night in Orange.

Avery Tela also tallied a pair of goals in the win, as Turners scored four of its eight goals on penalty corners and led 5-0 at halftime. Goalie Conner Herzig made one save.

Mahar received goals from Ava DeJackame, Laura McGinnis and Taylor Paluk. Zoey Woodard made seven saves.

Deerfield scores

Three Deerfield Academy teams were in action on Wednesday, with the DA boys soccer team picking up a 7-0 win over Westminster. 

The Big Green girls soccer team lost to NMH, 2-1, while the DA boys water polo team fell to Choate, 11-9, in double overtime.

Griffin de Ruiter (18:43), Ryan Spofford (19:33), Lex Singh (19:35), Maddax Wegiel (19:36) and Ben Goodwin (23:49) scored for the Panthers in a pair of losses to the Rams and the Raiders on Tuesday in Northfield. 

Girls cross country

Hampshire 15, Pioneer 85 —
Mia Fowler-Shaw (24:13), Luci Burnap (24:39), Emersen Pratt (26:09), Izzy Allen (33:44) and Raine Snow (38:11) were the Panthers’ top finishers in a meet against the Rams and Raiders in Northfield on Tuesday.

Golf

Lenox 168, Pioneer 179 — Ben Werner (42), Brayden Thayer (44), Ethan Mauthe (45) and Hugh Cyhowski (48) scored for the Panthers in a road loss to Lenox on Tuesday.
