Two area football teams are dancing.
After uncertainty Friday night in regard to whether Athol or Franklin Tech did enough to qualify for the MIAA Division 8 postseason, both schools were part of the 16-team field that was released on Sunday.
Athol (5-3) is the No. 14 seed in the field, just ahead of No. 15 Franklin Tech (6-2). Both will travel to play on the road in the Round of 16 this weekend.
Athol will head to the Berkshires for a matchup with No. 3 Hoosac Valley (8-0), while the Eagles draw a trip to No. 2 Carver (8-0).
Both local programs wound up comfortably in the field via the final power rankings. Brighton (4-3) is the No. 16 seed, while Worcester’s North High School was the first team out with a 17th-ranked power rating.
West Boylston is the No. 1 seed in the Division 8 field. Other local programs in the field include No. 5 Ware (8-0).
Game times haven’t been officially set, but likely would be Friday night at 7 p.m. Hoosac Valley doesn’t have lights at its home field, but may choose to play elsewhere.
