Golden Age Club’s first meeting of 2025

ATHOL – The Athol Golden Age Club will hold its first meeting of 2025 on Feb. 24 at the Athol Senior Center at 1 p.m. This is a critical meeting for all members to attend, as the two remaining E-Board members need to discuss what the future of the club is going to be. This will be a brainstorming meeting among all present and each and every opinion matters.

The Athol Golden Age Club is open to anyone 55 or over. Its purpose is threefold: to promote “re-creation” through challenging programs, friendship through regular meetings, and leisure activities such as the popular senior bus trips.

Athol Food Pantry among recipients of sock donations

ATHOL – United Way of North Central Massachusetts (UWNCM) recently distributed 2,000 pairs of Bombas socks to 13 local food pantries, helping individuals and families in need stay warm this winter.

Among the recipients are the Salvation Army of Athol and Winchendon CAC.

The socks, valued at $24,000, were shared by the Montachusett Veterans Outreach Center, which received 10,000 pairs from Bombas and provided 2,000 to UWNCM. Volunteers from LUK’s Youth Programming helped sort them, ensuring each pantry received approximately 145 pairs.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Montachusett Veterans Outreach Center for sharing these much-needed socks,” said Judy Tomlinson, UWNCM Director of Community Impact. “Winter can be especially tough for those facing financial hardship, and something as simple as a new pair of socks can make a big difference. It’s like a little hug for your feet.”

The United Way of North Central Massachusetts serves the communities of Ashburnham, Ashby, Athol, Ayer, Devens, Fitchburg, Gardner, Groton, Harvard, Hubbardston, Leominster, Littleton, Pepperell, Lunenburg, Petersham, Phillipston, Royalston, Shirley, Templeton, Townsend, Westminster and Winchendon.
