Petersham – The Petersham Art Center will present the work of artist Roc Goudreau and invites the public to an opening reception of “Facets of Life: Paintings by Roc Goudreau” on Sunday, Aug. 10, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The exhibition runs through Aug. 31.
Goudreau was born in Ware, where he started his art career at a young age. He studied painting with artist Elizabeth Howe Lincoln, then went on to study drawing under Dean G. Keller at Lyme Academy of Fine Arts.
During the past 40 years, Goudreau has made a living as a professional artist. Over the years he has won numerous awards for his drawings and paintings. Goudreau has taught color theory and application techniques at the Northampton School of Design and is one of the founders of Workshop13 in Ware.
In 2012, a quartet of artists purchased an abandoned church from the Town of Ware. They invested their savings and united local townspeople, friends and family to help restore the building to become a welcoming space for artists and musicians creating Workshop13.
In 2018 and 2019, Workshop13 expanded into two empty storefronts on Ware’s Main Street, creating ArtWorks Gallery and ClayWorks Pottery Studio. At Workshop13, Goudreau teaches various art classes including painting and drawing. He also dedicates time to commissioned portraits.
The art center’s hours are Thursdays through Sundays, 12 noon to 4 p.m. For more information about the exhibition and the center, please call 978-724-3415. Since 1912 the Petersham Art Center has been a home to regional fine art and craft through its shop, gallery, classes and special events.
