PHILLIPSTON – A crash on Route 2 that occurred Monday morning and involving at least six vehicles is under investigation, according to the Massachusetts State Police.
One female was transported to Athol Hospital with serious injuries.
At approximately 9:53 a.m., troopers from the Athol Barracks were dispatched to Route 2 west at exit 79 for a multi-vehicle crash involving a tractor trailer and at least five other vehicles, according to MSP’s Media Relations Department. Route 2 west was closed at exit 79.
The MSP Crime Scene Services and Collision Analysis & Reconstruction sections were called to the scene. It is unknown at this time if any charges will be filed.
MassDOT reports that the closure is expected to remain in place for several hours. Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes and avoid the area if possible.
