Both Yolvin Ovalle and Rojelio Galvan Martin each buried a pair of goals for the Turners Falls boys soccer team, and it propelled the Thunder to a dominant 5-0 win over Drury on Wednesday afternoon in North Adams.

The win stood as Turners’ ninth this season and kept its undefeated record alive as the Thunder are now 9-0-3 with four games remaining on their regular season schedule in 2025.

On top of Ovalle and Galvan Martin’s two tallies apiece, Kainen Stevens also found the back of the net to aid the Turners offense. Moises Borraye, Curtis Ketchmar and Noah Kolodziej added assists in the win.

Turners returns to action on Friday evening as it hosts Athol under the lights at 6 p.m.

Mount Everett 2, Franklin Tech 0 — The Eagles’ trip out to the Berkshires didn’t go as planned, as they were shut out by Mount Everett on the road Wednesday afternoon.

Tech falls to 6-5-1 on the year and will host Greenfield in a huge game at 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon.

Girls soccer

Frontier 5, Greenfield 2 — The Redhawks received contributions from everyone in a strong performance against the Green Wave on Wednesday afternoon in Greenfield. Madelyn Fagan scored twice and recorded three assists to lead the way for Frontier.

Callie Gifford and Danica Kopzca also scored in the win while Maggie Nichols and Skyler Steele dished out assists.

Greenfield’s Elderina Cecunjanin scored and added an assist, and Zephyr Jetzon also scored for the hosts in the losing effort.

Field hockey

Frontier 2, Longmeadow 1 — The Redhawks picked up their biggest win of the season on Wednesday afternoon, knocking off western Mass. powerhouse Longmeadow behind a goal and an assist from Addie Harrington.

Macy DeMaio also scored a goal for Frontier and Rowan Reilly added a helper. Brooke Charest was tremendous in the cage with 10 saves to hold the Lancers to only one goal.

Smith Academy 6, Mahar 0 — For the second time this season, the Sens lost 6-0 to the Falcons, this time coming at home on Wednesday afternoon.

Mahar (3-6-2) has the rest of the week off before traveling to Westhampton on Tuesday to take on Hampshire.

Volleyball

Hampden Charter 3, Athol 1 — The Bears put up a valiant effort, but they couldn’t make enough plays down the stretch in the third and fourth sets as they dropped a 3-1 match on Wednesday evening in Chicopee.

Set scores were 25-23, 24-26, 25-22, 25-21.

Aby Spooner led Athol with four kills and added four aces, while Giana Vaillancourt’s struck for a team-high 12 aces in a stellar effort behind the service line. Bella Barton recorded four digs, while Maddie Desrosiers and Ella Reed each put down two kills.

Longmeadow 3, Frontier 0 — The undefeated Lancers looked every bit the part on Wednesday evening, as they dominated the Redhawks in straight sets 25-11, 25-20, 25-11. Longmeadow has only lost one set all season.

Aimee Talbott had five kills, Caitlin Maio put down four and dug up a team-high 12 balls, Cadence Martin tallied 10 assists and Raine Wonsey accounted for half of Frontier’s four aces as a team. Martin and Avah Spearance put down a pair of kills each.

Golf

Hampshire 169, Frontier 171 — Jacob Cornelison led the Redhawks with an impressive round of 37, but it wasn’t enough to defeat the Raiders in their regular season finale on Wednesday afternoon at Blandford Country Club.

Braiden Dion also played well for Frontier, carding a 43 in defeat.

Redhawks teammates Luke Howard and Evan Hedlund were neck-and-neck for first place the whole way, and it was Howard who just barely edged out Hedlund by a hundredth of a second on Wednesday at Frontier. Both times were submitted as 15:01, but it was Howard who officially got the win. Dean Gray (11th, 15:59) rounded out Frontier’s finishers inside the top 15.

Greenfield’s Ryan Spofford turned in an impressive time of 15:07 to take third while Dylan Breiwick (eighth, 15:31) and Alex Scotera (10th, 15:51) also ran well for the Green Wave.

Franklin Tech’s William Thomas posted a 15th-place finish in 16:31 to lead the Eagles.

Mahar at Turners — Neither team had enough players to score, but it didn’t stop runners from having strong performances on Wednesday afternoon at the Turners Falls Bob Avery Course (2.8 miles).

On the boys side, Isaiah Whitmac took first after a back-and-forth battle with Turners’ Lucian Carlo. Whitmac finished in 19:24 while Carlo was close behind in second (19:29). Mahar’s Michael LaPlante (third, 20:38), Joseph Burke (fourth, 23:13) and Chance Butler (23:21) rounded out the top five while Lucas Edmonds (ninth, 30:06) was the only other Thunder finisher in the top 10.

Only Turners’ Olivia Wolbach ran on the girls side on Wednesday, and she finished with a time of 23:22 to earn the first-place finish.
