ATHOL — A 46-year-old man is facing eight charges after he allegedly threatened to kill another individual with a knife in Athol.

According to the Athol Police Department, Curtis Payne has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (knife); assault and battery on a person over age 60/disabled person with injury; kidnapping; strangulation; suffocation; assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (shoe); threatening to commit a crime (murder); and witness intimidation.

On Wednesday, Oct. 8, at approximately 3:30 p.m., police responded to a residence in Athol for a report of a subject threatening to kill another individual with a knife. Officers located a 60-year-old disabled male victim who was found with duct tape wrapped around his neck.

The victim was transported by ambulance to Athol Hospital for evaluation and treatment.

“This was an isolated incident, and the parties involved were known to each other,” the Police Department’s statement reads. “There is no threat to the public.”

Payne was transported to the Franklin County Jail and House of Correction, where he is being held on $100,000 bail, according to the Police Department.
