ROYALSTON – Approximately 70 people spent the evening of Oct. 19 touring Royalston Center Cemetery, where, using flashlights, they read gravestones and visited people portraying several Royalston residents interred there.
The tours were led by Athol High School teacher Beth Gospodarek, with students from AHS, St. Bernard’s and Mount Wachusett Community College.
People on tour paid close attention as each reenactor gave a brief biography of the people whom they portrayed. Each tour of 20 or more people remained silent and respectful as each story was told during the half-hour trek through the cemetery.
Before each tour, people were welcome to gather in the Royalston Historical Society Museum for warm drinks and donuts. They were also encouraged to tour the museum, with its large collection of artifacts from the town’s past.
