The Pioneer Valley Regional girls basketball team clinched a state tournament berth with a 49-43 win over Mohawk Trail Regional at Messer Gymnasium in Northfield on Thursday.
The Panthers (10-6) led for most of the game before a 9-2 fourth quarter run by the Warriors. Pioneer regrouped and claimed the victory with the help of a balanced scoring attack.
Maggie Tsipenyuk led Pioneer with 11 points. Kiara Gruszkowski added 10 points with a 3-pointer from the Panther paw print near midcourt at the end of the shot clock. Seniors Cobi Tyminski and Kyler McClelland each added six points. Deveney Pillsbury scored seven points while Jaelyn Boliski dropped nine points for Pioneer.
Natalie Lanoue (14 points), Emmalee Inman (14 points) and Sadie Wilcox (11 points) were all in double-figures for Mohawk (8-8).
Mahar 45, Greenfield 41 — The Senators erased a 15-point third quarter deficit in the win over the Green Wave at Grzesik-Bixby gymnasium. Hayden Comeau led the way for Mahar (15-2) with 19 points. Taylor Paluk scored nine points with five coming in the fourth quarter.
Tayler Bergeron scored 19 points for the Green Wave (8-9). Amy Mihailicenco added eight points for Greenfield.
Baystate Academy 67, Turners Falls 23 — The Bulls were too much for the Thunder (0-18) in Springfield. Autumn DiMare led the way with nine points. Ivy Lopez had eight points while Jojo Hayman chipped in with six points.
Smith Voc 53, Athol 27 — The Bears couldn’t overcome a slow start in a loss to the Vikings at Mallet Gymnasium. Serena Nkengafe led Athol (4-12, 3-5) with eight points. Maddie Desrosiers and Abigayle Spooner both added six points for the Bears.

Ludlow 39, Mahar 38 — The Senators lost to the Lions on the road. Orion Whitehouse pinned (1:46) Giovanni Perez at 132 pounds. Elias Roberts won by technical fall (15-0) at 150 pounds. Eujeyn Smith won by fall (1:21) at 175 pounds for Mahar. Khalil Roberts won a decision (8-3) at 215 pounds.
Franklin Tech 57, PVCICS 18 — The Eagles took down the Dragons in Hadley. Max Brunette won a 15-3 decsion over Simon Speek at 132 pounds for the Eagles. Landon Purington won by fall at 138 pounds. Carsten Couture won by technical fall (15-0) at 144 pounds. Camden Bonnett added another win by fall at 165 pounds.

Hopkins Academy 55, Turners Falls 15 — Jojo Hayman and Ivy Lopez both scored six points for the Thunder in the road loss to the Golden Hawks in independent play.
