The Four Rivers boys basketball team advanced in the River Valley Athletic League playoffs after a 50-34 win over Saint Michaels on Tuesday night at Stoneleigh-Burnham.

The Otters jumped all over Saint Michaels, opening the game on a 20-6 run. Four Rivers maintained the lead throughout the game to advance to the RVAL finals.

Cooper Whitney created plenty of offense for the Otters and finished with 15 points, three steals and two assists. Kolin Broderick added 10 points, five steals and five assists.

Miles Retzlaff scored 10 points with five steals. Retzlaff cleaned the glass for eight rebounds. Henry Schwerin filled the stat sheet with eight points, six steals and five rebounds.

Prior to the game, the Otters honored their seniors: Whitney, Russell Herbert, Retzlaff , Broderick and Oliver West.

Girls basketball

Frontier 25, West Springfield 20 — The fifth and sixth grade girls Suburban team took down the Terriers on the road on Feb. 8. Elliet Novak, Coco Goldstein and Grace Puchalski scored four points each for the Redhawks (8-2).

Frontier 38, West Springfield 23 — The seventh and eighth grade girls Suburban team also won on the road against West Side with the help of eight points by Natalie Engstrom. With the win, the middle schoolers are now 9-1.

Mount Institute Ski League

In race No. 5, Northfield Mount Hermon swept both the girls and the boys race. It was a 2-run slalom in blustery race conditions at Berkshire East on Wednesday.  The Northfield Mount Hermon girls finished with 330 points. Deerfield Academy was second with 223 points. Rowan Skinner was first overall (40.55) for Deerfield Academy. Teammate Cecelia Cramer was second (82.45). Ellie Pinkham placed third for Northfield Mount Hermon (82.93).

For the boys, Northfield Mount Hermon took first with 334 points. Deerfield Academy was second with 306 points. Cody Vassar was first overall (74.43) in the boys field for Northfield Mount Hermon. Beckett Baird took second (76.17) for Deerfield Academy.

Knight of Columbus Hoop Shoot

The Knights of Columbus Hoop Shoot continues on Saturday at the Franklin County YMCA. District play begins for nine-year-old Caden Thomas of Montague, 10-year-old Savannah Thomas of Greenfield and 11-year-old Kent Warner of Northfield. The participants will shoot best out of 25 for a chance to advance to Western Mass. competition. The event begins at 3 p.m.

Berkshire Highlands Pentathlon

The 13th Berkshire Highlands Pentathlon will be held Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Berkshire East Resort in Charlemont. Registration is now open for all categories; Bravehearts, who do the entire course solo, family teams, and teams of 2-5. Discounted entry fees for family teams and entrants under 19-years old. 

The five events are a 4.5-mile trail run, 18-mile road cycle ride, 2+ mile paddle, 2-mile adventure run and a climb up, ski down leg.  Online discounted registration is at BikeReg.com.  The event is in need of volunteers. This year’s benefactor is the Good Neighbors Food Pantry.

Shelburne Falls Bowling Alley

Scores ending week Feb. 6 are as follows. In Sunday Scotch Doubles, Dana Dodge and Kyle Leger rolled a 115 in high single while Scott Schneider and Nick Gray scored a 302 in high triple. In Monday’s Mixed League, Missy Finn scored a 107 in high single while Marilyn Wilson rolled a 282 in high triple. In high single, Kyle Leger carded a 122 while Randy Heminger scored a 303 in high triple.

In Tuesday’s Mixed League, Nancy Purington scored a 100 in high single and a 285 in high triple. In high single, Anthony Gutierrez carded a 94. In high triple, Paul Cohen, Steve St. Pierre and David Livingstone all scored a 253.

In Wednesday’s Mixed League, Sam Purington rolled a 109 in high single and a 269 in high triple. Erich Price rolled a 133 in high single and a 330 in high triple. In Thursday’s Mixed League, Amber Garcia rolled a 89 in high single and a 255 in high triple. Scott Schneider carded a 137 in high single and a 329 in high triple.

Greenfield Elks Pitch League

Leaders after matches played on Feb. 5. First place: Bob Ferris, Doug Houle, Tim Wondoloski (17 points each); Second place: Neil Black (16 points); Third place: Jim Elwell, Mike Larabee, Chris Kalinowski, John Richardson (15 points).
