ATHOL – On Saturday, Jan. 24, the Athol Knights of Columbus Free Throw Competition was held at the Athol YMCA. Sixteen boys, ages 9 to 14, participated in the event, each hoping to earn the opportunity to advance to the district competition, which will take place in Greenfield on Feb. 14.

Athol Democrats to elect delegates to DNC
ATHOL — On Saturday, March 7 at 10 a.m., Democrats will convene at the Athol Town Hall, Liberty Hall (use basement door) to elect five delegates and four alternates to represent Athol at the 2026 Massachusetts Democratic Convention. Doors will open for registration at 9:30 a.m.
Registered and pre-registered Democrats (16 years old plus) in Athol may vote and be elected as delegates or alternates during the Caucus. Non-voting members of the public are welcome to observe.
Youth (age 16 to 35), people with disabilities, people of color, veterans, members of the LGBTQ+ community not elected as delegates or alternates are encouraged to apply to be add-on delegates at the Caucus or by visiting massdems.org. The 2026 Convention will be in person at the DCU Center in Worcester, MA on May 29-30.
Offices up for nomination in 2026 will include United States Senate, governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of the commonwealth, state treasurer and state auditor.

Annabelle Crossman named to Salve Regina dean’s list
NEWPORT, RHODE ISLAND – Annabelle Crossman of Phillipston was named to the dean’s list during the fall 2025 academic semester at Salve Regina University. To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.6 for full-time students completing at least 12 graded credits, or a semester grade point average of 3.8 for part-time students completing at least six credits.
Robert B. Coyle Scholarship applications
ATHOL – Interested in a future in wildlife biology, entomology or botany? Maybe you see yourself as a future forester, park ranger or fisheries technician?
The Athol Bird and Nature Club has proudly established the Robert B. Coyle Scholarship to support our members in advancing their learning and understanding of natural history. The ABNC is a diverse organization supporting many areas of natural history and scientific research.
Applications must be submitted by midnight, March 17. The announcement of the scholarship awards will be made by April 15.
