I hope residents of Deerfield, Sunderland, and Whately will consider voting yes for the proposed South County Senior Center at 112 Amherst Road in Sunderland.
Our senior community is vibrant and active. Many of us have spent decades raising families here, volunteering in our towns, supporting our schools and libraries, and helping our communities grow. A dedicated senior center would give older adults a welcoming place to gather, stay active, learn new things, and support one another.
The proposed building offers a wonderful opportunity. It is spacious, well cared for, and has the room needed for programs, health services, social events, and future growth. Just as important, it would bring many activities that are now scattered across the valley into one comfortable place where people can connect.
A friend and I recently created a short, light-hearted video featuring two puppets talking about the proposed senior center and the benefits of the new location. We hope it brings a smile while also reminding people how important community spaces like this can be. If possible, I would appreciate it if the newspaper could include the link so readers can view it and learn more about the proposal. Video Link: https://vimeo.com/1173355301?share=copy&fl=sv&fe=ci.
Supporting this project is not only about today’s seniors. It’s about creating a place that future generations will also enjoy. I hope our communities will come together and vote yes at the upcoming town meetings in Sunderland on April 24 6 p.m., in Deerfield on May 11 at 6:30 p.m. and in Whately on June 2 at 6 p.m.
