The Four Rivers boys ultimate squad went 5-1 at the 21st Annual Born to Dive tournament over the weekend in Fairless Hills, Pa.

The Otters performance ranked third in the 16-team field at Pennsbury High School. Four Rivers’ only loss came at the hands of the top-overall seed in the tournament, Columbia High School.

Kolin Broderick, Russell Herbert and Cooper Whitney led the team in its five wins over Columbia High School (JV), Salesianum (13-1), Pennsbury (13-7), Springfield (13-5) and H-B Woodlawn (13-9).

Next up for the Otters is the 33rd Amherst Invitational tournament this Saturday and Sunday in Amherst on the campus of UMass.

Greenfield Minor League Baseball

Gruber & Tripp 11, Gagne Wealth Management 10 —Aidan Martin, Roman French and Jaxson Carleton each had two hits in the contest between in the win for Gruber & Tripp. Carleton jogged the bases after launching a home run for Gruber & Tripp. For Gagne, Nora Trainor had three hits while Jacob Williams connected on two base knocks. Ezekiel Hickey performed well on the mound for Gagne.

Majors

Gilmore & Farrell 8, New Fortune 7 Gilmore & Farrell edged New Fortune in a season opener on April 23. Miles Williams threw an immaculate inning in the fourth frame. Sean Winslow lauched his first career home run, with Sam Edson adding an RBI single for New Fortune. For Gilmore & Farrell, Ben Trombley went 3-for-3. Adrian Lopez also connected on his first career dinger for the winners. Joe Gardner had a nice night at the plate, going 2-for-3.

AAA

Rotary 14, Pioneer Valley Tire 4 — Rotary got strong pitching performances from John Vera-Dryer, Solomon O’Neil-Evans, and Reed Williams in the win over Pioneer Valley Tire on April 24. O’Neil-Evans, Williams and Jacolby Dyer added hits for Rotary. For Pioneer Valley Tire, Cody Castine pitched three excellent innings and Willie Webb-Halpern recorded a hit. 

Newt Guilbault Community Baseball League

Opening day was a success for the Newt Guilbault Community Baseball League in Turners Falls on Sunday. The league has 97 players across three age divisions and nine total teams.

The Rookies kicked things off with a matchup between Bache Plumbing and Greenfield Savings Bank. In the other games, Elks took the win over TFAC, Pipione’s topped St. Stans and Beck’s Automotive came out on top against Booska’s.

Majors

Montague Elks 7, TFAC 5 — Tyler Varilly got the win on the mound, recording seven strikeouts in the opening day win for the Elks. had seven strikeouts. Varilly added added three hits at the plate. Grace Myers picked up the save, striking out eight hitters. Logan Demers and Joe Bedaw combined for 13 strikeouts for TFAC. Gabe Barber had two hits in the loss. 

Greenfield Girls Softball League

Sandri 5, Pristine 0 Skye Warner, Alivia Griffith and Bradleigh Varilly all went 3-for-3 at the plate in the opening day win for Sandri. Pristine’s Amelia Weeden, Spencer Graham, and Lilly Sadowski all had hit.

Shelburne Falls Bowling Alley

Here are the scores from week ending on April 24. In Sunday Scotch Doubles, Missy Finn and Ed Skorupski rolled a 119 in high single and a 294 in high triple.

In Tuesday’s League, Nanci Young carded a 98 in high single while Anne Moore scored a 268 in high triple. In Wednesday’s Spring Mini League, Nancy Purington scored a 109 in high single while Karen Herzog rolled a 286 in high triple. Steve St. Pierre scored a 111 in high single and a 305 in high triple.

In Thursday’s Mixed League, Emily Silva scored a 105 in high triple while Colleen Barrows rolled a 311 in high triple. Scott Schneider scored a 142 in high single and a 364 in high triple.

Preps

Scores from Deerfield Academy on Saturday are as follows. Deerfield Academy baseball beat Exeter, 7-2 and 8-5, in a double-header. Girls lacrosse defeated Westminster, 21-1. Boys lacrosse beat Andover, 13-5. The golf team won at the Andover Invitational with a combined score of 296. Softball lost to Williston, 8-1. Boys track & field came in third at a meet in Hotchkiss (Loomis 77.5, Hotchkiss 60, Deerfield 39.5) while the girls also came in third (Loomis 79, Hotchkiss 59.5, Deerfield 41.5). Girls water polo took a 11-2 loss at Hopkins.
