Selectboard votes on FY27 transfer station fees
ORANGE — The Selectboard voted unanimously to set the fiscal year 2027 transfer station fees, which have increased to reflect heightened costs of removal.
Individual bags will go from $3.25 apiece to $3.50 apiece, whereas packs of five will go from $16.25 to $17.50 and packs of 10 will go from $32.50 to $35. Disposal of demolition materials will cost $12 up to 100 pounds, $18 up to 150 pounds, and $60 up to 500 pounds.
Wooden furniture disposal will increase from $6 to $7, sinks will go from $8 to $9, kitchen and dining room tables will cost $12 to get rid of, and the price of paint disposal will rise from $1 to $2 per quart and from $3 to $4 per gallon.
Disposal of carpets will increase from $6 to $7, and the price to get rid of a mattress will increase from $60 to $65.
Larry Delaney, the town’s superintendent of highways, cemeteries and parks, noted at the most recent Selectboard meeting that transfer station employees charge by volume because there is no scale on site. He said a scale would be a $100,000 investment.
