Most of us have been very concerned about the rising costs of healthcare, including health insurance premiums, deductibles, and co-pays. For those of us who are caring for a family member with cancer, the situation is worse — and even dire. Single-payer healthcare, “Medicare for All” would address these issues and enable us to focus on our loved ones’ and our own health without worrying about finances. (A study just out by the Yale School of Public Health estimates that universal coverage would reduce annual health expenditures by over $1 trillion, or nearly 20% — as well as save more than 100,000 lives a year.) That is why it is essential we vote for candidates who support Medicare for All in our upcoming primary on Sept. 1, such as Ed Markey, Jim McGovern, Jeromie Whalen, Lindsay Sabadosa, and Jo Comerford.
