ATHOL — The victim in a fatal crash last week has been identified as Irene Murray, 75, of Baldwinville, according to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office.
Murray was struck by a vehicle on Monday, Aug. 17, at approximately 3:20 p.m. in the area of 147 Tower Road in Athol. The preliminary investigation indicates that the incident occurred in a crosswalk outside Market Basket. The 49-year-old female driver of the vehicle involved in the crash remained at the scene.
Upon arrival, emergency personnel located Murray suffering from serious injuries. She was transported via LifeFlight to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester for evaluation and treatment. She was pronounced dead at the hospital on Tuesday, Aug. 18. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
The crash remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section and the Athol Police Department.
