PETERSHAM – The Petersham Art Center will present a new group show featuring the recent works of a painter and two potters.
All are invited to join the artists for an opening reception of “Flow and Form: Mosaics, Paintings, & Pottery by Katie Switzer Walsh, Dianne Dolan, and Sevim Kadi” on Sunday, Sept. 13, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Along with meeting the artists and enjoying a gallery full of their works, the reception offers refreshments and a time to see friends and meet new people from the area. The exhibition is on display through Oct. 18.
Orange-based potter Dianne Dolan manages the Petersham Art Center Pottery Studio, which she led the effort to reboot after over a decade-long dormancy. She and her husband, artist Bill Dolan, also run Dolan Studios in Orange and she is an active member of the Orange Innovation Center.
Christina Eaton of the Art Center’s Education Committee, notes, “Along with her devotion to creating beautiful stoneware pottery, Dianne offers a wide variety of hands-on pottery classes at the Petersham Art Center, where her enthusiastic instruction is appreciated by all ages and her students come away with unique, creative works. That passion to share and teach comes through in Dianne’s own work.”
Kadi creates her ceramic works in her Petersham studio, from beautiful, utilitarian pieces for the home and kitchen including plates, platters, bowls, and mugs to unique vessels. Kadi and Dolan joined together to re-imagine the dormant pottery studio at the Petersham Art Center with assistance from Art Center volunteers and other supporters, creating a vibrant, well-furnished studio and classroom. Both artists offer their works for sale at the Art Center.
Petersham-based artist Switzer Walsh grew up in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Ocean State and immersed in an artistic community which nurtured her love of art from an early age and continues to influence her connection to place. Switzer Walsh explained that she is a process-based artist whose work draws inspiration from the rich colors, organic forms, textures, and shifting light found in the natural world. Working across a variety of media, her process is intuitive and spontaneous, allowing each piece to remain open to possibility as she responds to the work as it develops, embracing moments of both creation and disruption.
