Pioneer Valley Brass to perform at Orthodox Congregational Church
PETERSHAM – The Orthodox Congregational Church of Petersham will host a free public program of specially arranged brass music at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25. The Pioneer Valley Brass will perform the 822nd service funded by the First Universalist Parish of North Dana as a remembrance of that church. The music will cover a wide range of styles.
The church was forced to leave North Dana for the creation of the Quabbin Reservoir in the early 1900s to provide drinking water for the city of Boston. A trust fund started in the 1920s by sisters Catherine Mason and Mary Hale provides funds for these musical services.
The Pioneer Valley Brass is a group of musicians from throughout the area which has been performing for over 40 years with various membership. Dick Tandy and Steve Babineau play trumpet, Tabitha Greelees plays horn, Dana Tandy performs on trombone, and Susan Lemei is featured on tuba. These musicians have performed and are well-known throughout the region.
Several Dana Vespers programs are scheduled for the fall and winter. The Pioneer Brass will perform the next one at the Universalist church in Winchendon on Nov. 22.
