Please join me in voting to keep Lori Streeter as Franklin County Sheriff. When I came to Franklin County as special sheriff /superintendent in 1994, Lori was already there. Then Sheriff Fred Macdonald wanted to build a new facility, enhance professional training for staff, and move toward compliance with state and federal standards for operation of the jail and house of correction. From day one of my tenure through retirement in 2014 , Lori Streeter was essential in achieving progress at 160 Elm Street.
From developing policies and procedures, to complying with regulatory correctional standards, to training of staff, Lori was engaged, self- initiated, knowledgeable and committed . Throughout the arduous task of planning , designing and constructing the new facility , Ms. Streeter was quietly at work ensuring that the agency moved forward and was prepared to open, staff, and operate a modern sheriff’s office and correctional facility.
From corrections officer to director of standards and compliance, to asst. deputy superintendent to asst. superintendent, Lori was reliable and capable, no matter the size or scope projects I asked her to tackle . Sheriffs’ offices were aptly described by a Circuit Court of Appeals as complex and diverse agencies with law enforcement, quasi-judicial authority and pretrial detention, correctional and post- release responsibilities. I can state without reservation that numerous objectives set by Sheriff Macdonald and then by Sheriff Donelan were accomplished due to the efforts of Lori Streeter.
Outside the walls , Ms. Streeter worked across counties with the Mass. Sheriffs Training and Education Committee, coordinated an annual training conference at Holyoke Community College, developing collaborations on standards compliance, in-service training, recruitment of women, and participating in audit teams in jails across the state. Prior to my retirement in 2014, Ms. Streeter was my go-to person for facility operations at all levels. There was no “I” in team. We moved forward together from a place of public service to promote rehabilitation and re-entry for men in our care, and to assist cities and towns with public safety-related community services and programs. From her appointment to special sheriff when I retired, to her appointment as interim sheriff by our governor, Lori was prepared for the challenges ahead with a wealth of institutional knowledge and experience. Lori is a competent public safety and correctional administrator. Please vote to keep her as our Franklin County sheriff.
