ATHOL — The combo that has led the Athol softball team one way or another, did so again on Friday against Mohawk Trail Regional High School.
Haley Bigwood went 3-for-4 at the plate with a three-run home run in the second inning and Lindsey Leblanc pitched all seven innings, striking out seven, in the Red Raiders’ 7-6 win over the Warriors.
Bigwood and Leblanc also created the go-ahead run in the sixth inning. With one out and the game tied at six, Leblanc walked on four pitches. Destiny Wrigley and Haley Bigwood hit back-to-back singles, which drove in Leblanc for the go-ahead run.
Leblanc walked one and allowed one single to put runners on first and second in the seventh inning, but got the strikeout for the final out to preserve Athol’s win.
The Red Raiders (6-4) had only six hits in the contest. While Bigwood had two singles and one home run, Wrigley, Hannah Lajoie and Rozlyn Nelson each had one single.
The Red Raiders have now won four in a row and will face the 5-5 Pioneer Valley Panthers on Monday in Athol.
