GREENFIELD — An Athol man facing eight charges related to violence against a child pleaded not guilty in Franklin County Superior Court on Wednesday after his case was transferred from Orange District Court due to its severity.

Timothy M. Erickson, 45, of Western Avenue, was again arraigned on five counts of indecent assault and battery of a child under 14, two counts of rape of a child and one count of procuring alcohol for a minor. Following agreement from the attorneys, Judge Mark Mason released Erickson on personal recognizance, with a list of conditions to follow.

Erickson is represented by defense attorney Emily Shallcross, of the Committee for Public Counsel Services. Assistant District Attorney Stephanie Jimenez is prosecuting the case for the state.

Erickson, who was originally arraigned in Orange District Court on Jan. 21, is expected back in court at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2.
