Nicholas Wo: Slow down in Montague

Dear Community: I want to address a troubling incident that recently occurred: a child was hit by a car driving recklessly, and it was only due to the quick actions of local Samaritans that the driver didn’t flee the scene. This has sparked anger and disbelief among many of us, highlighting the urgent need for change.
During a recent Select Board meeting, it was clear that our town leaders are aware of the increase in speeding and reckless driving. They are actively pursuing grants to make our roads safer and are studying potential speed control measures. However, we cannot wait for these changes to happen. As a community, we have the power to advocate for safer roads and protect our children.
Here are ways we can act together: 1. Raise awareness: Let’s share information about safe driving practices and promote discussion in our community. 2. Organize community meetings: We can gather to voice our concerns and develop strategies for making our voices heard. 3. Support local initiatives: Engage with our town leaders and back their efforts to secure grants and implement safety studies. 4. Create a neighborhood watch: Encourage residents to monitor traffic and report unsafe driving behaviors. 5. Involve schools and parents. Work with local schools to educate about road safety and encourage safe walking and biking habits.
Together, we can advocate for the changes needed to ensure safer roads for everyone, especially our children. Let’s unite and take action for a better community. Thank you for your commitment to this important issue. We were all gifted with a voice and to be apart of a this community, let’s work together and collaborate change.
