Church’s Nov. 9 movie night to show ‘Young Frankenstein’

PETERSHAM – Petersham Orthodox Congregational Church will show the Mel Brooks movie “Young Frankenstein” at 21 N. Main St. / Route 32 in Petersham at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9.

There is no admission and some refreshments will be provided.

Comfy cushions and food to share will be welcome.

Coffeehouse to host benefit concert on Nov. 11

WENDELL — The band Do It Now — which combines poetry, story-telling, political commentary and musical improvisation to share the vision and hope for the planet — will perform at the Full Moon Coffeehouse on Saturday, Nov. 11, as part of a benefit show for the Wendell Historical Society.

Doors open at 7 p.m. and there will be an open mic at 7:30.

Donations of $6-$20 (cash only) can be made at the door. Silent Movie with live music accompaniment in Royalston.

Braised beef supper at Methodist Church

ATHOL — Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church, 40 Island St. in Athol, invites the community to supper this Saturday, Nov. 11, at 6 p.m.

On the menu is freshly prepared braised beef. This complete family-style meal includes generous portions of braised beef, real mashed potatoes, brown gravy, a veggie, salad, homemade bread, and their famous home-baked pie, all for just $12.

Reservations are required and will be accepted through Friday, Nov. 10, at noon, and can be made by calling 978-249-9561.

Limited takeout and local delivery are available.

Prepared and served by dedicated volunteers, the kitchen is overseen by ServSafe certified head cook Paul Maier Jr.

In addition to in-person dining, a limited number of full dinners (including pie) are available for takeout/pickup as well as local delivery.

Reservations are required for all meals. Takeout meals will be ready for pick-up at 5:45, and guests should use the Marble St. parking lot and backdoor for easy access.

Following Saturday’s meal, the suppers will take a break for the holidays and resume in January, allowing volunteers and guests to enjoy Advent and the Christmas season. Helpers will be back in the kitchen on the second Saturday in January preparing a delicious meal to start the new year.

The church, located at 40 Island St. in downtown Athol, is fully accessible using the Marble Street entrance. Additional parking is available in the Athol Public Library lot.

Silent film showing of ‘Metropolis’ at Town Hall

ROYALSTON — The classic silent film, “Metropolis,” will be shown with live music accompaniment at Royalston Town Hall at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, sponsored by the Friends of the Phinehas S. Newton Library.

This dreamy 1927 expressionist film is considered the first science fiction film and was hugely influential on films like “Star Wars,” “Dr. Strangelove,” and “Batman.” Caleb Chase, Kelly Chen and other musicians from Boston, Providence and Worcester will play live music underscoring the plot and themes. This event is free (donations appreciated) and refreshments are available.

PHILLIPSTON — Those interested in signing up for Phillipston’s Wood Bank can contact Highway Superintendent Rick Tenney at 978-249-6851. The wood is not cut to length or split and may include green wood not ready to burn.
