The U.S. Postal Service will issue a forever first-class mail stamp on June 9 noting the bicentennial of the Flag Act of 1818. That law established the current format of the U.S. flag, with thirteen stripes and a star for each state.

The stamp will feature a U.S. flag, be a self-adhesive, and issued in panes of 20.

A coin show will be held on June 10 at the Elks Lodge on Route 12 in Auburn. Hours are 9 a.m to 2 p.m. Admission and off-street parking are free.

The U.S. Mint has no new items on offer this coming week, but it may be of interest to U.S. coin collectors that sales of many of their products are down from previous years’ totals. The American Eagle silver ounce coin, and some of the sizes of the gold version are way down from recent years, as are the clad proof coin set.

The price of gold and silver are down quite a bit from seven years ago, which would make one think sales of coins made of these metals should be higher. However, a stagnant price level for precious metals often scares off potential buyers, who wait for a sizable increase in metals prices to begin buying them again.
