PETERSHAM — Petersham Art Center is featuring works by local artists Polly Kiely and Torin Kiely through Nov. 8.
The new exhibit will feature paintings and jewelry by the Kielys. An opening reception will be held at the center, near the Town Common, on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m.
A graduate of Athol High School, Polly Kiely grew up in South Athol and eventually studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. After returning to the North Quabbin area in the late 1970s, she has taught painting and other crafts, including quilting and basket making. For the exhibit, her work includes scenes from the sea coast, spots in Alaska and California and various local landscapes. Her oils, acrylics and watercolors will be on display.
Torin Kiely graduated from Athol High School and completed the Greenfield Community College Outdoor Leadership Program. He has worked at multiple local businesses, including Petersham Country Store, Picasso Restaurant and now, Dean’s Beans Coffee Roaster. He works with gem stones to craft jewelry, wrapping them with silver and gold wires. His pendants and rings will be on exhibit.
Residents and others are welcome to join the artists on Sunday for refreshments, fine art and cheer.
Petersham Art Center, which began in 1912, showcases local fine craft and art of the North Quabbin region and beyond. The Art Center’s Barbara Ellis Gallery hosts various exhibitions by area artists throughout the year.
