GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Community College Chorus will continue its fall semester concert series on Sunday, Nov. 11 with a free performance: “Remembering Marilyn.” The concert will take place at 3 p.m. in Sloan Theater, GCC. The chorus will be under the direction of Margery Heins, with Henry Gaida, accompanist, soloists from the chorus, GCC Chorus alumni, and guest instrumentalists.
Marilyn Berthelette, who passed away in August, was the beloved accompanist of the GCC Chorus from 2013 to 2018 as well as a singing member of the group. She was well known in the Pioneer Valley as an organist, choir director, choral singer, and church woman; she was also a skilled quilter and stitcher. At the Nov. 11 concert the GCC Chorus will present a wide variety of sacred and secular choral music from 1600 to the present in memory of Marilyn.
The chorus is made up of students, faculty, alumni, and community members, and rehearses twice a week during the GCC day time class schedule, performing several times each semester.
The GCC Chorus has been conducted by Margery Heins since 2001. Henry Gaida, who has sung tenor with the group since 2006, became Accompanist at the beginning of this semester.
Greenfield Community College Chorus fall 2018 performances are sponsored by the Music Department and the Humanities Division at GCC. All GCC Chorus concerts are free and accessible, and the public is encouraged to attend.
GCC chorus alumni who sang with Marilyn are invited to join for selected numbers. Those interested should contact director Margery Heins for rehearsal and schedule information, at 413-775-1171 or send an email to heins@gcc.mass.edu.
