It was a big offensive night for the Buckland Brew Crew, which moved to 6-3 on the season thanks to a 21-5 win over the Buckland Rangers in a Pioneer Valley Women’s Softball League contest Wednesday night in Buckland.

Mackenzie Coburn and Caitlin Johnston each had hits for the Brew Crew while Emily Sullivan and Andrea Ledoyt both hit safely twice for the Rangers (3-7).

The league closes out its regular season tonight and will hold its postseason Saturday and Sunday in Cummington.

• In action played Tuesday night, Jenelle Wilkins clubbed two home runs and drove in four runs to send Conway past Shelburne Falls, 21-6.

Jaime Jackman was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and three RBIs, while Kirstin Smead was 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs.

Shelburne’s Dena Briggs had two doubles to lead her side. Amanda Chapin (double, RBI), Angie Renaud (double, two RBIs), Shirley MacLean (double, RBI) and Rachael Renaud (two RBIs) all contributed offensively.

Suburban League

In action Tuesday night, Holly Myers struck out four in 7-plus innings to help Turners Falls edge Westfield, 8-7, in Suburban League 14U action.

Turners’ Olivia Stafford smacked two doubles and a single to go with four RBIs. Madison Liimatainen slashed two singles and an RBI, while Keira Stevens played well defensively at first base.

• Also on Tuesday, the Greenfield Grizzlies 12U squad fell to Southampton, 6-3, despite finishing with eight hits in the game. 

Anna Bucala led the way with a triple and a single while Kylee Gamache, Kelly Baird, Addison Rotkiewicz, Nina Holden, Sophia Rotkiewicz and Stella Verlander all hit safely. 

GGSL Fall Ball

The Greenfield Girls Softball League is hosting signups tonight for its fall ball team from 5-7 p.m. at Murphy Park.

52nd Ouimet Memorial

South Deerfield’s Jacob Zaranek carded a 4-over par 75 on Wednesday, putting himself in a tie for 25th place after one round of the 52nd Ouimet Memorial Tournament at Boston Golf Club.

Zaranek posted one birdie on the 9th hole, but a double-bogey on the par 5 15th set him back en route to the 75.

The 20-year-old Fairfield University rising junior tees off his second round at 9:36 a.m. today.

Massachusetts Amateur champion Steven DiLisio leads after 18 holes following a standout round of 6-under 65. Three golfers are tied for second place at 2-under 69.

Junior PGA Championship

South Deerfield’s Jonathan Elkins had a much better second-round performance on Wednesday, firing a 1-over 71 to close out his 44th Boys Junior PGA Championship in a tie for 126th place at Hartford’s Keney Park.

Elkins missed the cut after finishing with a two-round total of 9-over 149. He shot a first-round 78 on Tuesday, and the cut following Wednesday stood at 1-over 141.

Kentucky’s Canon Claycomb is the leader after two rounds, totaling a 14-under 126 after Wednesday’s 64.

Thomas Memorial 

George Cooke scored an plus-eight to be the top point scorer in the Knights of Columbus League at the Thomas Memorial Course, Wednesday. 

Art Girard, Kevin Brown and Steve Brown tied for second with plus-five scores. 

Kenny Morin won closest to the pin on No. 7 (five feet five inch) and Roddy Brunelle won it on No. 9 (31 feet, six inches). 

Bill Roussel Sr. won skins on Nos. 2 and 4 and Charlie Peters won skins on Nos. 1 and 8.

Timmons League

Shane Foster and Brad Stafford took low gross honors with a 34 to pace the field at Wednesday night’s Timmons League held at Northfield Golf Club.

Charlie Brooks and Cody Snow were next, winning a match of cards to take second place with a 37.

Paul Fisher and Dave Prevost had the low net with a 26, followed by Mike Stevens and John Paresky (28).

Norm LaCoy was closest to the pin on No. 6 (11-6) and Neil Black was closest on No. 7 (9 inches). Foster’s 34 was enough for match medalist honors, followed by  Snow and Stevens with 38s.

Basketball

DRIVE League

The boys JV playoffs tipped off at Pioneer, Wednesday, with Northampton defeating Hampshire, 69-49. 

Kelvin Perez led Northampton with 20 points and Kasimir Supinski added 10 points. Will Ruskowski scored 12 points in the loss. 

Later, Greenfield defeated Belchertown, 43-41, behind 19 points from Mav Ward and 13 from Dante Ruggiano. 

Tyler McDonald dropped 10 points for Belchertown. 

In the final game, Joe Thomson and Dan Fellows combined for 21 points for Frontier to top Orange, 51-32. 

Connor Sluter scored 11 points and Gavin Sullivan added 10 points for Orange. 

Volleyball

Pioneer Valley Juniors

The Athol girls volleyball opened with a 25-19 set win over East Longmeadow on Wednesday at Elms College in Chicopee. 

The Spartans stormed back to take the second set, 25-8.

Madison Harrington had seven digs, three aces with a kill against East Longmeadow.

Skyleigh D’Ambrosia added five digs. Reilly McLaughlin and Rashelly Dalmau-Gonzalez led the Red Raiders with two kills each. Lexi Forte had two assists for Athol.

Athol then faced one of the top programs in WMass in Amherst Regional and lost twice, 25-16 and 25-14.

Athol had trouble with the precision and power of the Hurricanes.

D’Ambrosia (seven digs), Forte (four digs), Shaelynn Doherty (two digs), Harrington (two digs) and Madelynn Kenniff (two digs) led the defenssive effort.

Harrington and Dalmau-Gonzalez both had an ace for the Red Raiders. 

Athol plays in the Silver Bracket on Thursday when the playoffs begin back at Elms College.
