Three Mahar Regional wrestlers and two Franklin Tech wrestlers are heading to Methuen today to compete in the 2020 MIAA All-State wrestling tournament.
Jon Mahony, Henry Gilmore and Peter Tattan are representing the Senators at the tournament while Kyle Brunelle and Peter Saladino are there for the Eagles.
Mahony enters with the most confidence following a second-place finish at the MIAA Div. 3 meet last weekend. He enters today’s all-state meet as the No. 5 seed in the 113-pound bracket.
Gilmore and Tattan both reached the semifinals in their respective weight classes at sectionals last week, with Gilmore eventually settling for sixth place and Tattan taking fifth. Gilmore is the No. 17 seed at 152 today while Tattan is the No. 18 seed at 170.
Saladino took fifth a week ago at 126 and enters today at the No. 18 seed in the weight class. After winning the Western Mass tourmament, Kyle Brunelle took sixth at sectionals and is now seeded 17th today.
Like the boys, the Mahar girls wrestling team is also traveling to Methuen today to wrestle in the 2020 MIAA girls state wrestling tournament.
At the 2019 state tournament, Carolyn Gilmore made it to the finals for the Senators. Sophia Whitman, Ava Chiodo, Brooke Mitchell, Anaray Yang and Anya Roberts comprise the remainder of the Senator roster.
The seeds are handed out today after deliberation between the coaches.
