Worcester Emergency Medicine Services paramedic Rob Tusino gives UMass Memorial CEO Eric Dickson, MD, a firsthand look at the new mobile COVID-19 testing and transport van. The van was initially outfitted to transport ambulatory homeless COVID-19 patients to the specialized shelter established on Skyline Drive. Worcester Emergency Medicine Services is training its staff to perform the swab testing to eliminate any unnecessary stops at hospital emergency departments. The office of Emergency Medical Services protocol has been relaxed on ambulance patient transport that permits persons who call 911 with relatively mild COVID-19 symptoms to agree to remain at home if they have no comorbidities and after a medical consult with one of the emergency department docs. Worcester Emergency Medicine Services is working on getting a Telehealth App onto a tablet for a video conference between the caller and the doctor. This van is intended to handle that process as well. Credit: CONTRIBUTED PHOTO
