Mahar’s Sienna Moore showed off her pole vaulting skills over the weekend at the Bay State Games at Regis College.

The rising senior captured the gold medal in the event, clearing a height of 10 feet — six inches higher than the rest of the field. Moore also placed sixth in the javelin with a toss of 81 feet, one inch.

Youth softball

FC Summer League

A stellar pitching matchup between Gloria McDonald and Ellis Benitez led to a 5-5 tie between the Menace and Wolfpack during GGSL Franklin County League Summer Softball action Tuesday night at Murphy Park.

McDonald struck out 11 in five innings for Menace, while Benitez recorded 13 punchouts in 5⅔ inning innings to pace the Wolfpack.

At the plate, the Menace received two RBIs from Delaney Fifield, while Kylee Gamache and Lindsey Taylor each had a hit and an RBI and Lillian Poirier tripled. The Wolfpack’s Makayla Tatro drove in three runs, while Josie Dubay and Christiana Dunn both had a hit and drove in a run.

Youth baseball

Mickey Mantle

TJ Thibeault tossed four scoreless innings with seven strikeouts, helping Greenfield Pierce Brothers Crocker Communications score a 15-4 win over Dalton in a PYVBL Mickey Mantle game Monday at Pine Grove Park in Dalton.

Jackson Petrin struck out a pair in relief. Offensively, Hugh Cyhowski was 3-for-4 with five RBIs, while Thibeault, Jackson Petrin, Jackson Campbell and Jacob Petrin all had a hit and an RBI. Cam Burnett (hit, two runs) and Brayden Thayer (hit, three runs) were other contributors.

The club fell on the road at Ware, 12-6, in a game played Saturday. Burnett was 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored while Jake Petrin also had three hits and an RBI in the win. Johnny Marchefka (2-for-4, RBI, two runs), Campell (2-for-4, RBI), Cyhowski (2-for-4, RBI), Deven Dubie (2-for-4, run), Colin Broderick (hit, RBI, run) and Jackson Petrin (hit, run) all chipped in.

Golf

Mass. Amateur Championship

Alan Smith of Crumpin-Fox Club shot a 9-over-par 81 in the first round at the 113th Massachusetts Amateur Golf Championship on Tuesday at the Brae Burn Country Club in Newton. 

The score put him in a tie for 121st after the opening round. Andy Luther and George Zolotas shared the lead after Day 1 with 4-under 68s.

Ace at Thomas Memorial

Bob White of Colrain recorded his first hole-in-one on Sunday at Thomas Memorial. 

White’s ace came on Hole No. 7 from 132 yards out. He used a 51 degree wedge and it was witnessed by Matt Betsold, Russ Kimball and Rick Kimball. 

Basketball

DRIVE League

Mav Ward’s 15 points combined with Brendan Driscoll’s 11 points helped lead Greenfield to a 57-43 win over Athol on Monday in the DRIVE Summer Basketball League.

Vinny Gordon led the Bears with 11 points in the loss. 

In the second game of the night, Tate Chamberlain scored 10 points as Brattleboro topped Smith Academy, 49-27. Wyatt Jeffress had nine points in the loss. 

Frontier defeated Turners Falls, 80-39, behind 19 points from Joe Thomson and 10 from Dan Fellows. Logan Addison had 13 points for the Thunder. 

Adult softball

Greenfield Co-Ed

Cassidy Snyder smacked three hits, including a home run and a triple, and drove in six runs to lift the Montague Elks past the Liberty Tax Sharks, 16-9, in Greenfield Co-Ed League softball action Tuesday night.

Kenzie Bardwell (three hits, two RBIs) and Colin Benedict (three hits, two RBIs) were other offensive standouts for the Elks.

Liberty’s Leann McCollum (three hits, two RBIs), Danny Hamburg (two RBIs) and Josh Lashway (double) paced their side.

PV Women’s League

Taylor Boutwell smacked a home run to help Ashfield score a 10-8 win over Goshen in a Pioneer Valley Women’s League softball game Tuesday night.

Whitney Roberts and Fawn Mougin both tripled for Goshen.

• In other action, Jenelle Wilkins had a home run and two RBIs, Jaime Jackman was 3-for-3 with a triple, double and RBI, and Kristin Ouellette smacked three hits and three RBIs to help Conway to a 21-6 win over Shelburne Falls.

Tegan Valeski and Erica Mason both had doubles for Shelburne.
