ATHOL – Matthew Herk, 26, has been sworn in as Athol’s newest full-time police officer.

Town Clerk Nancy Burnham administered the oath on Tuesday, Feb. 17, to Herk in a ceremony held in the foyer of Athol Town Hall surrounded by family, friends, and fellow officers. Herk, who worked as a dispatcher for the Athol Police Department for the past three years, earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Worcester State University and completed training at the state Police Academy on Jan. 29. He is a resident of Orange.

Athol Police Chief Jarret Mousseau introduced Herk to the Selectboard at its meeting later in the evening.
