The Northfield Mount Hermon boys and Deerfield Academy girls seized team titles at the New England Prep School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Class A Alpine Skiing Championship at Berkshire East Mountain Resort on Wednesday.

All athletes did two runs on the giant slalom and the slalom with the combined time deciding the individual winner of each discipline. Northfield Mount Hermon topped the boys team standings with a score of 49. St Paul’s School was a distant second (79). Deerfield Academy placed eighth (148).

Northfield Mount Hermon’s Cody Vassar placed first in the slalom with a combined time of 85.47. Teammate Sam Rotermund took fifth (88.61) for Northfield Mount Hermon. Deerfield Academy’s Jackson Stram finished in eighth place (89.32).

Rotermund topped the individual standings in the giant slalom for Northfield Mount Hermon (92.76). Vassar was ninth (95.36) for Northfield Mount Hermon.

Deerfield Academy won the team championship with a score of 43. Northfield Mount Hermon was second (51). Northfield Mount Hermon’s Ellie Pinkham won the individual slalom race with a combined time of 83.09. Teammate Wylie Benedetti was second (83.17). Deerfield Academy’s Rowan Skinner took third (83.75). Cecelia Cramer placed fifth (85.46) for Deerfield Academy. Maura Glynn of Deerfield Academy was 10th (88.55).

In the giant slalom, Skinner topped the individual standings (99.41). Ellie Pinkham (102) was fourth for Northfield Mount Hermon. Cramer took eighth (103.75) while Benedetti ended up in ninth (103.79).

Berkshire Highlands Pentathlon

The 13th Berkshire Highlands Pentathlon will be held Saturday, March 28, at Berkshire East Mountain Resort in Charlemont. Registration is now open for all categories; Bravehearts, who do the entire course solo, family teams, and teams of 2-5. Discounted entry fees for family teams and entrants under 19-years old. 

The five events are a 4.5-mile trail run, 18-mile road cycle ride, 2+ mile paddle, 2-mile adventure run and a climb up, ski down leg.  Online discounted registration is at BikeReg.com.  The event is in need of volunteers. This year’s benefactor is the Good Neighbors Food Pantry.

Girls basketball

Frontier 32, Northampton 24 — In one final tune up before the postseason, the Frontier fifth and sixth grade girls Suburban team went on the road and beat the Blue Devils on Feb. 21. Heidi Benson dropped 12 points or the Redhawks. Grace Barshefsky added six points. Frontier drew the No. 2 seed in the upcoming playoffs.

Boys basketball

Greenfield 70, Frontier 31 The Greenfield seventh and eighth grade boys Suburban team closed out its regular season with a win over the Redhawks in South Deerfield on Feb. 22. The Green Wave finished the regular season 16-0. Casey Burke led the way with 17 points. Xaviey Reynolds (17 points) and Xavier Woodard (10 points) were both in double figures for Greenfield.

Burke added seven assists for the Green Wave.

Greenfield 75, Turners Falls 42 The seventh and eighth graders took down the Thunder on the road on Feb. 21. Jonathan Bones dropped 20 points for the Green Wave. Phillip Brodeur and Wes Darling both scored 10 points in the victory.

Greenfield 73, Palmer 31 Bones led the way for the seventh and eighth graders in the home win over the Panthers on Feb. 15. Burke and Brodeur each scored 17 points for the Green Wave. Woodard cleaned the glass with 11 rebounds.

Darling chipped in with nine points.

Frontier 52, Greenfield 45 In the season finale for the Greenfield fifth and sixth grade Suburban team, the Redhawks took the victory at home on Feb. 22. Grabiel Ortiz (15 points), Lobsang Jamyang (12 points) and Toby Campbell (13 points) all reached double figures for the Green Wave (14-2).

Greenfield 51, Turners Falls 35 — Campbell dropped 18 points in the away win over the Thunder on Feb. 21. Campbell did not miss from the field, going 8-for-8 from the floor. Jamyang added 15 points, going 7-for-8 from the floor.

Greenfield 48, Palmer 36 — The Green Wave ran away from the Panthers in the home win on Feb. 15. Grabiel Ortiz (11 points), Jamyang (11 points) and Campbell (12 points) all reached double figures for the Wave.

Shelburne Falls Bowling Alley

Here are the scores from the rollers at Shelburne Falls Bowling Alley for week ending Feb. 20. In Sunday Scotch Doubles, Scott Schneider and Kendall Schneider rolled a 127 in high single and a 331 in high triple.

In Monday’s Mixed League, Marilyn Wilson rolled a 98 in high single and a 269 in high triple. Chris Lafreniere scored a 142 in high single and a 335 in high triple.

In Tuesday’s Mixed League, Tera Tippett scored a 111 in high single. In high triple, Nancy Purington rolled a 279. Paul Hollings carded a 114 in high single and a 281 in high triple.

In Wednesday’s Mixed League, Marilyn Wilson carded a 103 in high single while Cherie Semanie scored a 277 in high triple. In high single, Ed Skorupski rolled a 111 while Erich Price carded a 308 in high triple.

In Thursday’s Mixed League, Colleen Barrows scored a 110 in high single and a 309 in high triple. Derick Call rolled a 137 in high single and a 309 in high triple.

Greenfield Elks Pitch League

Here are the standings after matches played on Feb. 18. First place: Tim Wondoloski, Todd Goulet, Jim Burke (22 points); Second place: Jim Elwell (21 points); Third place: Doug Houle, Bob Ferris, John Richardson (20 points).
